Police Officers Save Choking Puppy After Woman Runs Into Station With Lifeless Pup

A distraught woman ran into a police station with her 9-week-old Saint Bernard puppy desperate for help after the dog began choking to death on food. When officers of North Reading, Mass. came over to see what was the matter, they found the puppy was not breathing, limp, and unresponsive.

What the police officers and firefighters did next was captured on surveillance video that the department has since released.

The first responders remained calm as the dog’s owner paced frantically behind them and they began to administer life-saving CPR and were able to clear the pup’s blocked throat. They gave the poor pup oxygen afterwards, to make sure he was okay and his grateful owner then took her puppy to the veterinarian.

“Ultimately, a life was saved thanks to rescuers falling back on their training and remaining calm. Even though we are not faced with this kind of incident every day, the officers reacted just as they would in any emergency situation,” Police Chief Michael P. Murphy said afterwards in a press release. “We are hopeful that the puppy will make a full recovery.”
