Dog Rescued from Lake Lytham after Spending Night Clinging to Shoreline


A German Shepherd was rescued from Lake Lytham in Lancashire after spending a perilous night clinging to a wooden structure for safety.


The incident occurred early in the morning on March 25, when a passerby spotted the distressed dog on the shore of Fairhaven Lake. Swiftly responding to the situation, the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, with the help of local police and bystanders, successfully rescued the stranded dog.

Following the incident, the dog was handed over to the local RSPCA. As per LancsLive reports, the dog is currently receiving care from The Veterinary Health Centre. The owner of the dog will need to provide identification to claim the pet.

To locate the dog’s owner, the police have also initiated a search around the lake and launched a request for information campaign. They are additionally planning to review CCTV footage around the lake to track down the owner.

In a social media post, Fylde Police stated: “A German Shepherd dog was reported to have been stranded in the water at Fairhaven Lake this morning after spending the night there. We can confirm that the dog was rescued with the help of our Lancs Fire & Rescue colleagues and several members of the public, which was a fantastic result. The Veterinary Health Centre is currently caring for the dog, and the owner will need to provide documentation.”

“The dog is now safe and under the care of the local RSPCA. We will be examining the lake’s CCTV footage to try and identify the owner of this dog.”

The police have appealed to the public for information: “Were you in the vicinity? Did you notice anything? Is this your dog? If so, please report it online or call 101 and reference log number 0243 for today. Thank you for your cooperation.”
