At the Orangeburg County Animal Control and Shelter in South Carolina, a defeated and emaciated dog trembled in the corner of his shelter kennel. Left chained up and abandoned, he nearly starved to death until animal control officers found him. He was so afraid he would barely walk on a leash.
The shelter staff named him Atlas. Patience and kindness soon paid off. Once gently coaxed out of his kennel and carried outside, soothing hands and soft, comforting words seemed to have made a difference.
“His tail started to wag, his head lifted just a little higher and the hope in his eyes shone bright.
Atlas, your new life is just beginning. Better days are ahead of you now,” the organization posted on their Facebook page.
