Days ago, a beloved rescue dog was honored by her owner in a Tweet which has since gone viral. The tribute, made by a Missouri firefighter, was Tweeted on May 10:
11 yrs ago I rescued puppy while on duty at an
#StL firehouse. Over the next decade+, we would be inseparable. On adventures, on walks around the neighborhood, or sitting by the fire at home. She passed away in my arms last night, peacefully, after a resolute fight w/ cancer.
He described their incredible bond:
We could communicate with glances and head nods. My wife would joke that it felt like we were ganging up on her,” he continued in a series of tweets. “As life came crashing against our door –grad school, promotions, loss, injury & sickness– our routine stayed the same. She was always grounding. Always loyal.”
He expressed hope that others would work on creating their own “brand of joy:”
I could spend weeks posting pictures & telling you stories of how funny, brave & tender she was. My point to all of this is that love & loss go hand in hand. Bella & I made the most of our time & I hope that in your life, you are cultivating your own brand of joy.
Favre’s love for his dog hit the mark with many people who felt the pain of his loss. And the viral nature of Favre’s Tweet serves the very important reminder that dogs should be adopted…not purchased:
In the past, I joked that Bella deserved her own billboard.
That she was the poster-girl for how beautiful (inside & out) rescue dogs can be.
If people could see how sweet, gentle & loyal she was, they would #AdoptNotShop.
In the end, Bella got her billboard.
She deserved it.
Rest in peace Bella.
