Overweight bulldog brought to shelter to be euthanized: Vet denied request

At the Miami-Dade Animal Services, an overweight English bulldog was brought to the shelter on Christmas Eve by her owners who asked their dog be euthanized. Poor Juliet is overweight and has breathing problems; thankfully the shelter veterinarian examining the sweet dog denied the owners’ request.

Juliet is in need of rescue help.

JULIET #A1405407
“I am a spayed female, tan and white English Bulldog. The shelter staff think I am about 9 years old. I have been at the shelter since Dec 24, 2020.”

A volunteer at the shelter is helping to share Juliet’s story and offers the following suggestions. Juliet will need a full physical examination with a licensed veterinarian in order to determine her health and limitations.
“This sweet ENGLISH BULLDOG named Juliet is overweight. So what’s the big deal, she can be helped. She needs a foster that will give her the correct portion of nutritious food (either home recipe or very good dog food mixed with some meat if wished) to get her both to lose weight and exercise. Walks around the block and increased slowly and then to play in a play yard with a ball or some agility or in a pool where it will be easier for her to lose the weight and not a lot of stress of her joints. Have a feeling that she was fed poor nutrition and fed more than she should but lack of exercise is the culprit here. Needs active person/couple that will walk with her, play with her and give her attention. Go see her as she needs committed foster and this can be done easily.”
Please share Juliet’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
