An animal shelter in Mexico rescued a seven-month-old golden retriever mix last month after he had been abandoned and tied to a park bench along with a handwritten note from his previous owner. The note told the heartbreaking story:
“It hurts a lot to leave my dog here but I made the decision of leaving him because my family used to mistreat him and it would always hurt me to see him in that condition. If you’re reading this and your heart wavers, please adopt him and take good care of him. If not, please leave this note in its place. That way others can read it and adopt him. Thank you.”
Neighbors in the area had been feeding the puppy, but had been hesitant when getting too close to him because he was very nervous and would try to bite anyone who came too close.
The shelter Mascotas Coyoaca rescued the puppy, and with the help of a trainer was able to unchain the pup from the park bench. As soon as he was freed, the puppy was no longer upset or nervous and walked with his rescuers to their vehicle and jumped in with no fears of being touched.

The puppy became known as Boston – contrary to what the note stated as his name being Max. As his story attracted more attention, Boston received multiple offers for adoption, and a new home has since been chosen.
“We can only pick one, but we have many puppies looking for homes. If you can open your home to another, we’ll thank you immensely,” the rescue posted on their Facebook page. “Their stories are just as sad, but got less media.”
