Puppy stuffed into plastic and thrown away has died

One of the puppies who was bagged and dumped into a dumpster in Coachella, California, has died. The pup, one of seven abandoned with seven other pups last week, died on Wednesday.

Riverside County Animal Services updated Facebook followers with the heartbreaking news:

Unfortunately we have learned one of the dumped puppies has died. The very kind foster volunteer contacted us last night and shared the bad news. She said she believes the runt of litter just could not make a comeback. She said the little one might have been on the bottom of the bag when the woman dumped the puppies into a trash bin and, possibly, just never recovered from that traumatic moment

The six other puppies are said to be “thriving.”

The animal welfare agency shared a post from the deceased puppy’s foster guardian, who expressed grief over the pup’s loss:

i lost the little tiny runt yesterday… my heart is so broken. he was just so weak and held on for as long as he could 😭 when i got him he was pale and kind of flat looking, so i think he was the cushion that saved his siblings. as the lady threw them in the bag, i think he was at the bottom and took the hit when all of his siblings landed on him. i gave it everything i had in me, but he never grew. he never recovered.

An arrest in the cruelty case was made on Monday – authorities took 54-year-old Deborah Culwell into custody and she is facing seven counts of felony animal cruelty. An additional 38 dogs were discovered at her residence and they were all seized.
