Retired K9 officer surrendered to busy Miami-Dade animal control

A retired K9 officer, 10 years of age, finds himself in need of a new home after being surrendered to a Miami-Dade, Florida, animal control agency. The German shepherd, named Simon, should be enjoying his retirement years in the company of his person, not searching for a new place to rest his paws.

The Urgent Cats & Dogs of Miami Facebook page writes:

He is an 10 year old male German Shepherd, estimated weight is 70 lbs. He is a loving boy who gets along well with men, women, children and other dogs. He enjoys going for walks & is a retired K9 officer. He is kept mainly indoors, does well in cars and is fully housebroken.

According to shelter notes, Simon was surrendered for “personal reasons.” A German shepherd savvy owner is being sought for this older boy.

Please help Simon find a loving home by sharing his information. Rescues must request a hold on the pet via email to

Note: All inquiries about this dog must be made to the shelter.
