Dog With Deformed Face Spends His Second Chance Showering His Family With Love

Everyone, meet Clark Kent–a Pit Bull with a facial deformity. But Clark Kent doesn’t know that, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t care. Clark Kent has facial bone masses, but that deformity doesn’t stop him from being the sweet and friendly dog that he is.

Kylie Edmond–co-founder of the Rock & Rawhide Organization, met Clark Kent at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. He was left there by his former family because of his facial bone masses.

Clark Kent had kennel cough when he met Kylie. But despite that, he was as sweet as ever, his tail was wagging, and he showered Kylie with kisses.

Kylie was determined to save Clark. When he had double pneumonia, Kylie made sure that he gets the medical attention that he needed.

And now that Clark is healthier, he has also found a foster home. Watch the video below and see how sweet Clark is!

Move Over, Grumpy Cat – There’s a New Curmudgeon in Town!

Grumpy Cat’s popularity has already waned, but the desire for adorably cantankerous pets still beats deeply within the hearts of many. Usher in the age of Earl the Grumpy Puppy!

Just like Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, Earl’s looks are deceiving – he’s actually a very friendly and affectionate. He’s a second-generation pug and beagle mix with an underbite that contributes to his unsightly expression. He actually looks scarier when smiling.

“He has had the grumpy expression from day one. The vet said he’s as healthy as any other puppy. He just looks grumpy because of his underbite, wrinkles, and dark complexion,” said dog dad Derek Bloomfield.

“He is the most relaxed, content puppy either one of us [referring to fiancé Christie Bailey] has ever seen. Whenever he wants something he’ll calmly sit down and stare at us until we ask him the right question. Then he wags his tail in approval.

“He’s constantly trying to snuggle up to one of us and has us in constant fits of laughter through his facial expressions and mannerisms. He’s a daddy’s boy and loves to pick on his momma.”

Though Derek and Christie have gotten used to people’s reactions of Earl’s countenance while out for walks, neither had any idea how quickly his mug would rise to fame.

“People usually say ‘Oh my god, he is so cute,” and “Is he always that grumpy?” Usually a combination of those two phrases and laughter.

“We were both surprised at how quickly he went viral. The first night we were both checking the Reddit and Imgur links constantly just to see everyone’s reactions.”

“We especially enjoyed the various comparisons between Earl and well known people as well as the different memes that were created.

“Christie and I had talked about finding a puppy and giving him an ‘old man’s name’ long before we found Earl.”

Redditor Mick0331 wisely commented that “This dog should have clearly been named Red Foreman.” (A nod to Red Forman, the irascible dad on That ’70s Show.)

“We get the frown and the goofy looks all the time. But when he’s sleepy it’s dirty, dirty looks and we know not to touch him,” Derek said.

“I’m just happy people get to see what we see every day. His personality, we sit and crack up all the time,” said Christie. “So the fact that everyone else loves him as much as we do, we think it’s awesome.”

To Crate Or Not To Crate? A Closer Look At An Important Question All Dog Owners Must Face

Where do people stand on the crating issue? It’s considered a safe place by some and a dungeon-like torture chamber by others. It’s looked at as a stress-free zone or a stress-induced nightmare on both sides of the spectrum. It seems there is a great divide among the dog loving community, and many of heated discussions on social media proclaiming the wonders and dangers of crate training with each member of the debate passionate about their beliefs. What about the new dog parent that needs a judgment-free environment to explore options? Pull up a chair. Let’s talk crates and crate training:

Canine History 101
Back when canines ran in packs, wild and free over land and dale, they were considered den animals. They lived in caves, hollowed out trees, small dark places to curl up and keep out of the elements. Fast forward a thousand or so years, most dogs prefer small, dark den like areas to curl up in. Crates, when used correctly, can provide a safe place for a dog to chill in when he’s feeling stressed out.

Choosing a Crate
Find a den that the dog can easily stand up in and circle around. If the dog is still a puppy take growth speed into consideration. Larger breeds tend to have tremendous spurts. Make sure the crate is always large enough for the dog. Some dogs prefer a den like atmosphere, drape a blanket over the top and sides to make is dark and cozy.

Training Basics
The crate must never be used as a punishment. If a dog has negative associations with his den, then he will never feel completely comfortable or safe when in there. To get a dog to feel comfortable and safe, fill the area with favorite things: toys, blankets, treats or whatever the dog associates with positivity–put these items in the crate. Let the dog have freedom walking in and out of his room. Don’t lock him in during the “getting acquainted” phase.

Safety Issues
All dogs are wired a little bit different. One dog may love his crate and be happily content locked in for a couple hours. Or another may go berserk and try to tear the door off, injuring himself in the process. Training is a slow, easy-going endeavor. Rushing into crate training without getting the dog on board is a recipe for disaster and setting the dog up for all sorts of behavioral issues down the road. Always err on the side of caution.

Trust the Gut
There is little middle ground when the subject of crate training comes up. People either love it or despise the very notion. The only one that matters in this decision is the dog. If a dog is dead set against the crate for whatever reason, then alternatives should be considered.

After all, you can lead a dog to the crate but you can’t make him lie down.

Meet Sam, The Rescued Dog Without A Face

Sam is a Pit Bull that was rescued from a dog fighting raid that took 16 other dogs from horrifying conditions. Sam was a champion fighting dog who wears his trophies on his face – in the way of severe deformities. During his dreadful career, Sam was so seriously injured that he is missing part of his upper jaw completely. When the Humane Society of the United States rescued these dogs, they were happily surprised to see that, although apprehensive at first, Sam welcomed their love and attention as any dog would. Today Sam is a happy-go-lucky dog who is loved and played with, treated just like any other pet dog would be treated. He is certainly living a different life – a life that lets him be free.

Without the love and support of other dog lovers around the world, dog fighting would be a far more widespread sport and so many more dogs would suffer the cruel life that it brings. But now these rescues can take place and these dogs can be brought to new homes that will love them and treat them with the care they deserve.
