The news came to the family unexpectedly. In January 2016, Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) picked up the dog as a stray and after scanning him for a microchip, one was found. Thanks to it, MCASAC contacted Alicia via email to let her know her dog was alive and well.

As soon as the pet owners learned the good news they made plans to reunite with the dog. On February 1, 2016, Alicia flew back to Texas and embraced her beloved pooch.

In a video posted on YouTube, the pet owner says there were tears of joy when the family learned Corey was alive. New pet clothes and even a celebratory cake were bought for the happy reunion.

Even though Corey spent months away from his loved ones, the bond between him and his owners is still intact.

Justine McCray, the pet’s owner, told NBC10 that while she was walking her dog Sasha to her mother’s house, the pet got loose and ran away. She wasn’t able to catch up to the dog and it seemed the pet simply vanished. For the mother and pet owner, losing the pet was devastating, but what worried her the most was her daughter’s reaction. Sasha is McCray’s daughter’s best friend, and without the dog, the little girl would be heart broken.

A day after losing Sasha, the McCrays celebrated the young girl’s birthday, however the celebration did not feel complete because Sasha was no home. Luckily, just a day later, the dog was found and returned home.

The little dog had been picked up and taken to a vet, and thanks to the registered microchip, a reunion was made possible.

“She’s so happy,” McCray said of her daughter.

The pet owners are from Fort Collins, Wyo., and in August, they took their dog camping about 60 miles west of Laramie, but according to a Coloradoan.com report, the pet ran away and got lost after getting spooked by gunfire.

The Whitsitts searched for their dog but didn’t find him. They enlisted the help of family members and contacted the local humane society to report their missing pet, but in the end the heart broken couple had to return home without Hank.

For two months, the Whitsitts hoped to received calls with sightings of their dog, but other than one call from a hunter who though he had spotted the dog, the couple had no news of their missing dog.

Knowing  the area was roamed by coyotes, mountain lions and even bears, the Whitsitts believed there was little hope for Hank to be alive. Three weeks after losing Hank a new four legged member joined the family to try to bring happiness back into the empty household.

Two days short of 60 days since Hank’s disappearance, the Larimer Humane Society called asking to get Hank’s registration renewed. That’s when Tiffany decided to officially declared Hank dead, but just 72 hours later, their beloved pet was found.

Home Again, the company with whom Hank’s microchip had been registered called to inform the pet owners that the dog had been found walking along a highway, just an hour-long drive from French Creek. The Whitsitts didn’t want to get their hopes up because they didn’t believe Hank could have survived the wilderness all this long, but they agreed to meet the dog identified as Hank. When they met, tears of joy gushed out because it was true, Hank was alive.

The pet was taken to a vet. He lost about 20 lbs and needed grooming desperately, but the veterinarian who examined Hank ran tests and said he had been surviving on rabbits. His hunting instincts and the few extra pounds he had on when he got lost helped him survive the wilderness.

The Whitsitts are happy their family is complete. Tiffany, Travis, Hank and the new Australian shepherd puppy named Gus.
