A golden retriever named Cinnamon wandered onto a frozen pond in Golden, Colorado and quickly became submerged.  Thankfully, a sheriff’s deputy was around to see what had happened, and jumped into the water and saved her life.

Deputy Billy Brooks saw the dog struggling to stay afloat in the icy pond.  He grabbed a rescue rope and had a passerby hold the other end.  He secured the rope around himself and broke his way through the ice.  Cinnamon was already under the water.

Brooks got himself to the spot where he had last seen Cinnamon, and found himself chest deep in the frigid water.  He held onto a large chunk of ice, and reached around under the water to find her.

According to federal health officials, a number of dog chew toys are being recalled.  They may be contaminated with salmonella, which is potentially deadly to both us, and our furry family members.  All proper precautions should be taken to prevent spreading it.

The FDA warns that humans having come into direct contact with the Nylabone Puppy Starter Kit are at risk for infection if the bones were not handled with care.  Unless the bones were fully washed with soap and water to kill the bacteria, the risk is very high.

The recall covers an entire lot of the 1.69 ounce starter kit.  The package has three bones in it designed to aid in teething time with puppies.  They were made at the company’s New Jersey facility, then distributed to outlets across the US and Canada.

The FDA said symptoms of Salmonella in humans may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and can lead to more severe medical complications in some cases.  Any pets suffering from Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting.

The infection was discovered by the production company.  Since it’s discovery, no reported incidents of salmonella have been made.  However health officials have contingency plans in place if necessary.

The FDA has yet to say how many of the products are individually infected.  It did list the lot number as 21935, UPC code 0-18214-81291-3, and an expiration date of 3-22-2018.  If this matches any information on a starter kit, please return it to a store for a full refund.
