Amtrak to Allow Small Pets as Travel Companions

Recently, Delta Airlines has said they will not be putting pets in the cargo holds of their airplanes, and instead will allow them in the cabin of the plane. Amtrak, a popular American train travel service, has also just announced that small dogs and cats will be allowed to travel with their humans on most of their regular routes.

The announcement from Amtrak came this past Tuesday. They said that because of the success of their pilot program that was being tested in a limited number of areas, they will officially being making it okay to have small pets in carriers, ride right alongside their humans.

The new policy covers almost all of their routes. There are still a few in California that have the restrictions in place, but that is being worked on, and expected to be available there as well very soon. Apparently, there are some restrictions in California that would require the local area governments to sign off on the new rules before being put into action.

The new regulations for pet travel on Amtrak are as follows:

1.) Pets are limited to small cats and dogs (animal with carrier must weigh 20 pounds or less).

2.) It costs $25 per pet each way, and only one per customer.

3.) Pets must stay with their owner (no cargo or shipping animals).

4.) And pets must stay in their carrier during the entire ride.

Amtrak is also adding the pet service to most of their long-distance routes lasting less than seven hours as well. Those people in California may have to still wait a bit for everything to go through, but in most other places, passengers will be able to purchase pet tickets starting the 16^th of February.

Training a dog is a very big responsibility. Aside from the obvious house training, you need to make sure your pooch knows not to bark at every single person who walks by, and you should be able to keep him or her under control around kids. This family, however, took that one step further.

It’s not mom and dad who train fluffy Gauge; instead his little sister takes the reins as she tells her dog what to do. Not only will this bring a smile to your face, it’ll make you love dogs even more.

It doesn’t matter what age you are when you start training your dog, all that matters is that it gets done! What a great skill to have at such a young age — both parties seem pretty pleased with the results, too.

Trains Dog to Be Unofficial Greeter at Local Store

When Steve Moore adopted Jackson less than a month ago from a local shelter, Moore couldn’t believe nobody wanted him. Jackson sat at the shelter for four months before Moore came around. Now, less than a month into being with his new forever family, he’s already not only amazing his humans, but some of the locals as well. Jackson has been trained to stay outside of a store and wait for Moore to return to get him back to the vehicle. The best part is he will NOT leave with anyone but Moore. What a good boy!
