Tearful owner surrendered his dog to shelter after landlord said no

The photo of a  tearful owner surrendering his dog at the Miami-Dade Animal Services on Monday broke the hearts of animal advocates everywhere.  The two had been together since Chance was just a puppy, and now three years later, the owner embraced his dog for the last time.

When the owner recently moved, he tried to obtain an emotional support certificate in order to keep Chance, but it wasn’t done properly and the landlord denied his request.

According to the group Rescue Me Miami Animal Shelter, a social media page that networks the dogs from the shelter to help save their lives, rumors that Chance’s owner is homeless and turned in the dog because he could not afford to keep him are not true.

“We are working together with Adriana Orozco to help this pup. Pledges are needed as we do not know the exact plan for him yet. We will have to take care of this pup just like we take care of all our rescue babies. We will take Chance under rescue, if the owner can do everything he needs to get his pup back then Chance will be going back to his dad. If not then we will have to find Chance a good home, we don’t want Chance ending up in the wrong hands as some not so reputable people now have their eyes on him.”

I am an unaltered male, brown brindle Terrier mix.
