Terrified Labrador retriever shakes and drools in his kennel at animal control

A Labrador retriever in Houston, Texas, is absolutely terrified in his kennel run at the BARC Animal Shelter. The three-year-old dog, named Reed, is urgently in need of help. The Facebook page, Houston Underdogs, writes of the dog’s fear:

Reed came into BARC as a stray on 1/29. He is a very shy dog, and is scared in his kennel.Reed did allow staff to get close to him and pet him, but he has no interest in walking. He should flourish in a foster home where someone can spend some time with him and help him feel safe.

With additional behavior notes indicative of his terror:

I went into the outside run where he was way in the back. He was drooling, panting. I went to sit at the bench and give him treats but he darted to the other side of the run. He kept at this for some time until I asked for help. He was also darting away from her, panting still and then slowly lied down. When we got close enough. She tried to leash him while squatting. He barked and screamed towards the leash. He needed a towel under him and a harness to walk. He is currently cowering in his kennel.

Saving Reed
