UPDATE: Neapolitan Mastiff at shelter granted reprieve for another day

At the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter in Moreno Valley, California, a six-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff mix will not be humanely euthanized at the end of today as per the shelter, however a viable plan is needed.

Shelter Staff made the following comments about this animal:
03/18/20 10:33 If not adopted or rescued by the end of the day on 3-24-2020 this animal will be placed on the euthanasia list. DH

Described as a “blue and white” this big guy has been at the shelter since March 13. He has not been out of his kennel and has been deemed human aggressive by the shelter. He came in on a catch pole (as a stray in the field) and despite their best efforts, the staff has not been able to get him out of his kennel. He lunges at the kennel whenever anyone approaches or if he doesn’t like the treat offered.

This boy needs to be rescued by a trainer through an approved rescue organization who can take custody of him immediately.

“I’m not going to hold any of this against him,” Cathy Larimer, founder of Great Danes and Friends, Inc., who has launched all efforts to help this dog.

“No doubt he has lived in someone’s backyard and never been socialized. He protected the back yard the same way he is protecting his kennel. So he needs a calm place to decompress, one without other dogs or children and with someone who has the patience of a saint and who will introduce the dog to the ways and wonders of the world.

The dog may be fine once he’s out of that kennel. Hard to say without meeting him but we want to set him up for success so he is not just for anyone at the moment,” Cathy told the Pet Rescue Report on Tuesday night.
