Assailant Attacks Police Officer, Doesn’t Realize His K9 Partner Was There To Keep Him Safe

Late one night, the Adams’ County Police Department in Colorado received a call about a trespasser. The officer on duty headed over to the area with his K9 partner, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois named Lex.

When they arrived at the scene of the crime, the police officer tried to talk with the suspect. But the suspect ran away, forcing the officer and Lex to chase after him. The suspect hopped a fence and the officer followed, but in the process, he and Lex got separated. The officer reached the suspect, and the two began fighting.

While the deputy fought the suspect, Lex ran over to a nearby gate and nudged it open with his nose.

Once Lex got the gate open, he sprinted over to the officer and the suspect. With Lex’s help, the officer was able to apprehend the suspect.

The officer was injured in the fight, but after receiving treatment in the hospital, he was able to recover at home. If Lex wasn’t there to help, his injuries might have been much worse.

“Our deputies view canine Lex as a hero for saving the day. We appreciate everyone in the K-9 Unit and their hard work to keep us safe,” said Adams County Undersheriff Harold Lawson.

Adams’ County Police Department shared the heroic tale on Facebook. People were amazed by Lex’s quick-thinking and his determination to stop the criminal from escaping.
