Cross-Eyed Rescue Cat Raises Money For Other Shelter Animals

Cross-eyed pets are becoming very popular on social media. It seems as if people fall in love with them quickly because of their unique, sweet faces. In San Francisco, a rescue cat named Belarus is in those ranks.

According to Daily Mail, his adoptive owner, Krall, claimed it was love at first sight when she saw Belarus. One of the most notable features of this feline is the difficulty he has with aligning his eyes at the same time, a condition known as strabismus. After seeing how awesome her new cat was, she decided to create an Instagram account and share pictures of him online. Belarus now has more than 250,000 followers.

Krall does more than just share pictures of her feline. She also promotes some merch that features his face, cross-eyes and all. The proceeds from the merchandise sales go toward shelters in San Francisco, including the former home of Belarus, the SFACC.

“Last year, we donated $6,000 to shelters, with $4,000 to Belarus’ shelter SFACC, $1,000 to Sonoma Community Animal Response Team for their efforts saving animals from the Sonoma wildfire, and $1,000 to Cat Town of Oakland,” Krall told Daily Mail. “While I had originally only pledged 50% of the profits to the shelter for our first campaign, I’ve actually donated 100% of proceeds.”

It’s easy to see how the unique look of Belarus makes him stand out. You’ll be happy to know that strabismus doesn’t cause severe vision difficulties or pain, according to the New York Post.

Belarus has taken his Internet fame in stride and enjoys a simple life of food, games, and occasional mischief.
