Dog Once Called “Saddest Dog in the World” Finds Herself Looking for a Forever Family Again

Some of you may recognize Lana as the dog once dubbed the “saddest dog in the world” thanks to a photo of her at a shelter that was posted to the internet and quickly went viral.  Her story and photo were shared everywhere, and she eventually was adopted.  However, it wasn’t meant to be, and now Lana is again searching for a forever family.

The unfortunate incident took place not long ago.  Lana’s former human was feeding her, and for whatever reason, Lana snapped at her.  Apparently, that was enough for the person to want to return Lana to a shelter, and that happened back in 2016.  Here we are at May 11th, and Lana is still waiting.

That situation is bad enough in and of itself.  What makes matters worse, is according to another Facebook post from Rescue Dogs Match, Lana is running out of time to find a family.  According to a post on their page, “May 14 is Lana’s Birthday (she will be 3) Please help find her a Foster or Forever home. Lana only has until May 20th.  Since she hasn’t been able to find a permanent home for three years, she will be put to sleep on that day.”

“Lana’s adoption did not work out because people want a dog they can pet and play with,” Brenda Dobranski, founder of Rescue Dogs Match, told The Dodo.  “Lana is a silly fun girl but she is not the type of dog that will let you give belly rubs to and sleep in bed with.”

As usual, the shelter cites chronic overcrowding at their shelter.  Without a forever home or at very least a long-term foster, they just won’t have the space and resources to keep her around.  It really is just terribly sad that this is still an issue plaguing rescues and shelters all over the world.

“The best family for her would be a mature couple or person that has the time, patience, determination and commitment to help her become more confident,” the rescue group wrote on Facebook.  “She is sweet and silly, that is hard-wired into her character.  She is timid, wary of strangers only at first.  When she is not around the people she trusts, she has the tendency to shut down or become very hesitant.”

If you have been considering adding a dog to further enrich your life and the lives of those around you, maybe Lana is the dog you’ve been waiting for.  You’ll never know until you go and find out.  For more information on her, you can email info@rescuedogsmatch.com, or click here for their main page and click here for their Facebook.
