The girls pledge that the dog will not have to spend her remaining days in a shelter.

Older dogs in shelters are often overlooked by potential adopters. Yet, these senior canines need love and care, especially in their twilight years. Thanks to two compassionate friends, one senior dog, abandoned in a shelter at the grand age of 19, is experiencing a memorable send-off from this world.

According to 9News, Dallas resident Lauren Siler learned of Annie, a 19-year-old shelter dog in desperate need of a home. Her previous owners had heartlessly “dumped” her at the shelter. Given that Annie didn’t have much longer to live – the vet had estimated a month at most – it seemed she would have to spend her last days in the shelter.

However, Lauren and her best friend and roommate, Lisa Flores, were deeply touched by Annie’s story and decided to foster her. They saw her “adorable little face” in the shelter and couldn’t turn away. The pair committed to making Annie’s remaining time as enjoyable as possible by creating a “bucket list” of experiences for her.

Through their Instagram account, the foster parents pledged that Annie would have the best month of her 19 years. She would know love, enjoy royal treatment, and indulge in cuddles, ice cream, and hamburgers. She wouldn’t die alone in a shelter; she would be surrounded by love when her time came.

While doctors had given Annie only a few weeks, she outlived their expectations and is still thriving, enjoying every moment of her new life.

Although Annie’s time is limited, Lauren and Lisa continue to make her days vibrant and full of joy. Lauren told 9News, “We’re going to let her keep experiencing life until she’s ready to go. If she had spent her last day in the shelter, it would have broken my heart.”
