It was a hot July morning when I saw Sheba being led across the parking lot. The man with her looked down, and she just moped along. I walked inside. A few minutes later, Sheba was standing at my door.

We made eye contact and became instant friends. Sheba was a service dog in her earlier years. She served a wheelchair-bound veteran. She was 10-years-old, overweight and lost without her family. Her folks were aging and moving closer to family. She was just too big for them to care for anymore.
