Holiday shopping? Don’t forget homeless shelter pets

If you are like most people, you are right in the midst of holiday shopping. Undoubtedly your list is long, but would you consider adding something for homeless shelter pets? A New Mexico animal shelter is hopeful that people will choose to include homeless cats and dogs at the Animal Humane shelter this season.

And just in case you can’t think of that perfect something for a homeless pet, the shelter has put together a handy wish list. Items for the pets, and the shelter itself include:

  • Cat and dog food for the pet pantry
  • Clorox or Lysol wipes
  • Sharpies
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Collars and leashes
  • Batteries
  • Liquid bleach
  • Dog harnesses
  • Rubber dog toys

There are more items on the list – click here to view everything.

Not in the area of this shelter? No worries – there is undoubtedly an animal shelter near you which would appreciate a little something for the facility and/or the pets who are in their care. Consider putting together a bag of useful items to donate and help make the holidays a bit brighter for those less fortunate.

Or, go a step further and consider becoming a foster parent to a homeless cat or dog. Consider the gift of your time by asking your local animal shelter about their volunteer opportunities. Of course, if you are looking to add a new friend to the family, be sure to adopt (don’t shop!) your next companion.

Fun idea? Host a holiday party and ask your guests to bring something for your local animal shelter – you will have fun AND do something good at the same time.
