Man Grieving Over The Loss Of His Dog Goes To Shelter And Adopts Senior Dogs No One Wanted

Grief-stricken by the loss of his beloved dog, Steve Greig decided to channel his sorrow into a noble cause. He visited his local animal shelter and asked for the dog that no one wanted, a request that led him to a 12-year-old Chihuahua named Eeyore, who had a heart murmur and four bad knees. This was the beginning of an incredible journey for Steve, who went on to adopt eight more senior dogs, along with a rabbit, a chicken, and a pig.

Raised in a pet-friendly household, Steve was accustomed to the responsibilities of caring for animals. However, the extent to which he has gone to provide for his adopted companions is truly extraordinary. Steve’s day starts at 5 AM, preparing specialized diets and administering medications. After a workday as an accountant, he returns home for lunch to tend to his pets and then heads back to work. The evenings are dedicated to feeding and walking the dogs, some of whom need carts to get around. At the end of the day, they all cuddle together in bed, with a few having their beds for safety reasons.

The adopted family has developed some interesting dynamics. Bikini, the pig, behaves as though she is one of the dogs, while Stuart the rabbit and Betty the chicken are often featured alongside the senior dogs on the family’s Instagram page. Followers from around the world adore their updates and pictures.

Steve doesn’t just provide a loving home for these senior animals; he also assists the Maxfund Rescue Group in Denver to find homes for other senior dogs. He promotes them on his social media, hoping that a follower will be inspired to adopt.

Steve is particularly fond of senior pets, stating, “They’re just wiser animals. You kind of know what you want out of life once you become a certain age. These dogs know who they are and it’s easy to develop a relationship with a person or pet who knows who they are.”

His Instagram page is a testament to the distinct personalities of each of his adopted animals. His remarkable story and the adorable photographs underscore the message that senior dogs need love and make excellent companions. Thanks to individuals like Steve, the world is indeed a better place.

Witness the unique dynamics of this large family in the video below, as they embark on a walk.
