Man Quits Job to Journey Across the Country Rescuing Dogs from Shelters

For Lee Asher, a Los Angeles native, a deep love and commitment to animals have been ingrained since his childhood. He was raised in an unconventional family, surrounded by nine rescue pets, setting the stage for his life’s mission. Having saved 16 animals already, Asher decided to take his passion a step further.

As a child, Asher spent many of his days at the local animal shelter, absorbing knowledge about the rescue process. His experiences there molded him, making it clear that his adult life would be devoted to rescuing animals and aiding them in finding loving homes.

In a conversation with The Dodo, Asher stated,

He currently shares his home with seven dogs—Yaffa, Molly, Cali, BoBo, Butters, Haven, and Lillie—and two cats, Whiskey and Goose.

His affection for these creatures has been key to their rescue. Each of them has been saved from different dire circumstances and has since lived a life filled with love and care.

Asher believes that inspiration stems from a love for dogs and the awareness that rescuing a dog accomplishes two vital things: it saves a life and opens up a spot for another rescue animal to be adopted. In his words, it’s a “win-win situation with a fantastic feeling”.
