Owner abandoned 16-year-old dog in parking lot of shelter

In a heartbreaking situation that occurred on Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina, the owner of a 16-year-old black and white Dalmatian abandoned him in the parking lot of the Guilford County Shelter.

According to social media, reports, the owner of the dog, named Calloway, had been instructed to set up an appointment to surrender the dog, but rather than wait, the senior pup’s owner allegedly abandoned him in the parking lot. The dog’s plight quickly went viral, and has been shared more than 6,500 times.

Calloway’s PetHarbor listing:

“CALLAWAY – ID#A011300   My name is CALLAWAY. I am a male, white and black Dalmatian. The shelter staff think I am about 16 years old. I have been at the shelter since Dec 15, 2018.”

On Monday morning, animal advocate, Meghan Sink updated Calloway’s situation:

“There’s been a HUGE response and a couple rescues have stepped forward as well as countless people. Having said that, I am calling the shelter as soon as they open (12pm EST) to find out more. That’s all I know right now. I’ll update again as soon as I know more!”

At this time, it is unknown as to the dog’s fate. Additional information has indicated Calloway has not been eating and is blind and not standing. Updates to follow. An approved rescue organization is waiting for more information.
