Owner surrenders 20 Chiweenies found inside of his home

In Hialeah, Florida, a man had been keeping 19 Chiweenies inside of his home. Now officials are hoping the dogs and puppies all will get homes. Miami-Dade Animal Services is currently caring for the dogs and will be making them available for adoption on Saturday

On Thursday, officers from Miami Animal Services were informed about the elderly man keeping 24 Chihuahua-Doberman Pincher mixes in his home. Some of the puppies were as young as one-month-old and still nursing from their mother. The dogs were alleged to have been in poor health, and in Miami-Dade, pet owners are limited to having four dogs.

So how did all these dogs and puppies come about? According to the Miami-Dade Animal Control, a male and female had never been altered or spayed; and so the puppies kept coming – “litter after litter.”

The dogs are expected to be available for adoption beginning Saturday. They have been examined by a veterinarian and most are deemed healthy enough to be adopted. None of the dogs were older than three-years-old. Three of the youngest and their mother have been transferred to a rescue organization.
