Puppies Thrown Away With Trash In A Dumpster Are So Happy To Be Rescued

A man showed up to San Antonio Pets Alive! to surrendered two skinny, three-month-old puppies. Employees instructed the man to take them to a local no-kill shelter, but he decided to do something else with them instead.

It was nearly four hours later when an employee at a nearby market opened up his store’s dumpster to find the two puppies thrown away like garbage. The owner had tossed them out rather than making the trip to the shelter. The dogs were reported abandoned to the clinic, and their supervisor rushed over.

She opened the dumpster lid, and the two pups were extremely grateful.

“They immediately snuggled up to our kennel supervisor and were all tail wags when we offered them food and love,” the director of the medical clinic told The Dodo. “They were given baths due to being covered in fleas and we could tell that was a new experience for them — they much preferred the food!”

Seeing the puppies up close now, it was obvious just how neglected they were by their former owner. Crockett and Bowie were both severely malnourished and tested for ringworm and other parasites.

At the clinic, the bond shared between the two dogs became very apparent. Bowie would protect and care for Crockett by doing things such as lying on top of him to keep him warm and taking pieces of kibble over to his buddy and laying them by his face.

It was later revealed that Crockett was suffering from canine parvovirus, which is highly contagious and sometimes deadly. So the brothers had to be separated until he could be cured.

Both puppies face some serious health issues and will require lengthy treatments, but the caretakers are confident they will pull through. As soon as Crockett finishes his parvo treatment, he’ll be able to be back with his brother once more which will help the both of them tremendously.

In the meantime, both dogs are receiving all of the love and affection from staffers that they can handle. As soon as the pups are healthy enough to be neutered, they will be put up for adoption to begin their search for a forever home! Someone’s about to be a very lucky dog owner. 🙂

You can donate to San Antonio Pets Alive! to help them save more dogs.
