Rescue seeks final home for cancer-stricken senior dog

A rescue group in Phoenix, Arizona, is hoping to find someone who is willing and able to take in a cancer-stricken dog. HALO Animal Rescue loves the sweet, senior pit bull, but they have stated that past potential adopters have backed out on taking her home after learning that she has cancer.

As reported by Fox 10 News, the dog, named Xena, has Mast Cell tumors which have been removed – unfortunately there is no way to determine if the cancer will come back.

The rescue agency promoted Xena to followers in a Facebook post on January 22:

Xena is an excellent dog, except this sweet pit bull mix is having trouble finding a home because she has cancer. Nine-year-old Xena loves belly rubs. She knows several tricks, including “sit,” “shake,” and “lay down.” She enjoys walks and is well-mannered on the leash. She is even housebroken. Xena has had several people interested in adopting her, but they all declined to adopt after learning her diagnosis.

Until that special person comes along, Xena is enjoying life at the agency’s main shelter where she is enjoying “full reign in one of the offices.” According to the rescue group, Xena loves toys and treats and sitting on her bed, “watching the world go by.”

This deserving senior dog has some adorable tricks as well – the group wrote:

When she needs to go out, she lets the staff know by dancing with her front paws. Xena loves to be pet and she asks for attention nicely with just a little nudge
