Sweet Sheriff Offers to Pay Dog’s Adoption Fees After Owner Loses Home

Let’s find Chunk a forever home!

In Merced County, California Sheriff Vern Warnke was making a traffic stop when the driver of the vehicle explained that he had recently lost his home and was getting ready to move into a trailer. Due to this he could no longer keep his pet Pit Bull Chunk, and he surrendered the dog to Warnke then and there.

Sheriff Warnke was so touched by this story and this dog that he’s decided to cover all adoption fees to help find this baby his forever home.

In the above video the Sheriff says “This is a loving, loving buddy. He loves people, he loves dogs. I gotta tell you, the guy likes to chew!”

Here’s the sweet video ABC30 posted to Facebook.

People are absolutely loving Chunk and @SherriMcSwain comments, “OMG he is beautiful! Going to go to the shelter tomorrow to see if he is still available!” @ChristineBarjerano adds, “Poor baby! Hope this baby gets a good home!!” @martinDellaroma says, “God bless this Sheriff! And this pup!”

This sweet neutered almost five-year-old pit bull is available for adoption at Merced County Animal Services.

For more information on how to adopt Chunk, call (209) 385-7436.
