He weighed only 19 pounds, little more than a third of what would be considered healthy.  A good Samaritan saved him from the streets, where he would have quickly perished, and brought him to Bossier City Animal Control.

“This poor guy who we’ve named Jude was left on a chain to starve. When he got close to death they cut him loose so they didn’t have to deal with disposing of the carcass,” they said on their Facebook page.  “Despite humans failing him in every way possible, he still wags his tail and gives kisses.”

Jude was taken to Benton Animal Hospital for treatment and recovery.  BCAC’s office manager and rescue coordinator Brittany Hardy said she sees many pit bulls come in in a similar state.

“They’re a great breed, but often used for income and no care for where they end up, and a lot of the time they end up here,” she told the Shreveport Times.

It has taken months of care, but Jude is finally beginning to look like a healthy and happy boy.  He still has a few more pounds to pack on, but one of the staff members recently told me that now he is “doing great.”

The rescuers followed him, leaving food that had been infused with tranquilizers so they could get near enough to get him.  He ate some, but was also deliberate in trying to bury other portions, but demonstrated little strength for digging.  It took some time, but the tranquilizers were able to take effect and he was safely captured and transported to where he received veterinarian care for his injuries and illness.

This is a sad story about how some people seem to think animals, even those who are providing a service and making a direct contribution with their good work, are disposable.  The good news is he looks like a completely different dog now, handsome and healthy, and looking for his own forever home.

Hospitalized in critical condition, Thomas was started on warm IV fluids and warming packs were placed around his body to help stabilize his dangerously low core temperature. It would take weeks of wound care and IV antibiotics for Thomas to finally be given a clean bill of health.

It was then that we focused on Thomas’ emotional recovery. This can sometimes be just as challenging. After spending many hours with TAF’s therapy dogs, Thomas learned that when we raised our hands it wasn’t to hit him and when we approached him he did not need to cower… he learned what it meant to be loved and how to trust those that watched over him.

Now for the happy ending… it is with great joy that we announce that Thomas has found his forever home! Thomas’ new dad is a Chicago police officer and knows all too well the abuse that Thomas has gone through. He knows that he has a very special pup on his hands and will continue to watch over and protect Thomas, just like those before him. Thomas has already bonded with his new dad and they are inseparable… buddies for life!

Numerous attempts were made by others to coax her out and get her help, but after being attacked by what seemed to be either coyotes or possibly some other dogs she came across, she was far too scared to come out.

Hours went by, and still the poor thing would not come out.  It seemed like forever, but they were eventually able to get her to start accepting treats and food from them.  It was slow going, but it seemed like eventually, she started to trust her rescuers a little bit at a time.

The car was too low to the ground for the rescuers to reach under and grab her, so they had to build trust over time.  They did at one point get a leash on her, which finally got her out from under the vehicle, and Madeline was on her way to getting checked out medically.

Once back at the shelter, it was discovered that Madeline had been attacked.  It was assumed that took place either in, or somewhere near the park sh was found in.  By the bite marks she had, it was thought to be the work or other dogs or possibly coyotes.  Both are known to inhabit the park she was in.

She was taken in by the Hagar family to begin recovery.  However, she wouldn’t be staying too long.  In just a few short weeks she was back on her feet.  Not only was she doing better medically speaking and really coming out of her shell, she met a wonderful family and became a full time member.  She had her forever family, and she was a very happy dog.  Nice work Hope for Paws!

Animal Aid Unlimited from India shares this video and these photos of an amazing transformation.  You simply have to see this to believe it.  When first found, the dog was suffering through one of the worst cases of mange the rescuers had ever seen.  Things did not look good.

Miraculously, after just ten days of treatment, the dog started to turn around.  He is still doing well, and is looking for a proper forever home, with a loving family.  With his fresh, new coat, he seems to be much happier, and is an all around sweet heart of a dog.

He recovered from his poor health in a relatively short amount of time.  This was a good thing, considering the doctors did’t hold much hope for him to survive  Against all odds, he survived long enough to be rescued and every day that passes, he gets healthier and better.  Thanks to the caring people at Animal Aid Unlimited, this dog will live to see another day.

Nine extremely filthy and matted dogs have been rescued after being abandoned on a road in the UK.  It took rescuers nearly 30 hours to shave the dogs, which have now been determined to be poodles.  Officers are currently on the hunt for their former owner.

A mother and her eight adult puppies, caked in mud and very uncomfortable, were found wandering on a dirt road in Winchester, UK.  Their matts were so thick they couldn’t see, and so heavy they could barely stand, let alone walk.

The dogs were afraid to be touched, which may be the result of their having been beaten, or else because their fur caused their skin to be painful to the touch.

“They were terrified. The standard poodle of this size weighs about 25 kilograms (55 pounds) and when we clipped their coat the fur weighed 12 kilograms (26 pounds),” said Dave Griffiths, Winchester City Council’s senior animal welfare officer.

“I couldn’t tell if they were sheep or dogs. You couldn’t see their faces,” said Matt Southcott, one of the residents who reported seeing the dogs on his way in to work and pulled two of them from some brambles.  “They looked so badly matted and injured. I have never seen an animal in that state.”

The mother has been named Sian, and her pups are being called Dave, Fay, Justin, Kate, Wills, Maria, Martha, and Mavis.

They were brought to Cedar Vetenary Group in Alresford to be treated. Veterinarian Martha Edwards says Sian had to be sedated to have her matts removed.

“She had stones trapped between her paw pads which had obviously been there for some time. It is disgusting. I have never seen a dog in this condition before,” she said.

The dogs are currently being housed at a Hampshire Kennels.  It took three hours to shave each one.  They were only about half of their ideal weight, and their fur weighed as much as they did.

An animal welfare expert said it was probable that the dogs had been kept in “unlivable” conditions for their whole lives before being dumped “with no concern for their welfare.”

The police, RSPCA, and council chiefs are conducting an investigation to find the delinquent owner.

“The dogs were abandoned on Tuesday evening,” said a council spokesman. “We are keen to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything. All the dogs belong to the same litter and we believe there was just one owner.”

“We would ask anyone with any information about these dogs to call our inspectorate line on 0300 123 8018,” said an RSPCA spokesman.
