What Naming A Puppy Says About Decision-Making

How long does it take you to name a new puppy? Are you the type who takes a lot of time or maybe do some research to get the best name for your new furry friend? Or are you the type who can pick an acceptable name easily?

Psychology researchers say there are two basic types of decision makers. Wall Street Journal’s Elizabeth Bernstein explains the two types of decision makers: the Maximizer and the Satisficer. If you’re the type who wants takes the time so you can get the best name for your pup, then you’re a maximizer. On the other hand, if you’re the type who can pick any acceptable name easily so you can get things done, you’re a satisficer! Watch the video below to learn more!

Study Says Wolves Have Better Disposition Than Dogs

A study was conducted on wolves and their behavior in relation to each other as a pack. What was found that the key to the wolves’ success in the wild has something to do with them having a built in tolerance that’s higher than seen with domesticated dogs.

According to lead author of the published report, Friederike Range, “Wolves cooperate more in terms of breeding, defending territories and probably hunting. Dogs are scavengers.”

Initially, the researchers were of the mindset that domestication had bred a higher tolerance in dogs. This made it seem like dogs were a better social partner for man. This new study rethinks that concept.

It’s now believed that wolves most likely already had the social skills. It really came down to a matter of losing their fear early man. Once the fear issue was eliminated, dogs became the obvious choice to aid in the survival early man.

The study also found another key difference between dogs and wolves. With a wolf pack, the higher ranking wolves seem to allow the lower ranking a bit more leeway when it comes to matters of hunting for food and territory.

Range said, “This means that in the wolves, the higher-ranking partners were more tolerant of the lower-ranking ones. In the dogs, the lower-ranking ones did not dare to challenge the higher-ranking partners.”

The pack mentality with wolves compared to dogs is also a completely different dynamic. When you have a “dog pack,” you’ll have multiple males and females, and they are commonly not blood relatives.

With wolves it’s very different. There’s usually an alpha male and female with dogs. They are together with their offspring for a longer period. This makes for more of a family like atmosphere with wolves.

It would seem that for every similarity there is between wolves and dogs, there are an almost an equal number of differences. But no matter what , dogs really do make awesome pets and social partners. dogs are called “man’s best friend” for a for a lot of very good reasons.

Pope Francis Says All Dogs Go to Heaven

Recently while at a weekly address in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis brought comfort to a little boy who was grieving the loss of his pet dog. He gave the child some hope by telling him, “One day we will see our animals again in eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all God’s creatures.”

He quoted several bible passages as evidence, noting that “The holy scripture teaches us that the fulfillment of this wonderful design also affects everything around us… what lies ahead… is therefore a new creation… It is not an annihilation of the universe and all that surrounds us. Rather it brings everything to its fullness of being, truth and beauty.”

Shortly after his statement, the pope was given two donkeys, Thea and Noah, as Christmas presents from Eurolactic Italia, a company that manufactures donkey milk as an option for babies allergic to other kinds of milk. Company official Pierluigi Christophe Orunesu said Francis admitted to loving donkey’s milk, having drunk it as a child. He said Thea and Noah would certainly be in heaven to provide him with a steady supply of milk.

The pontiff has publicly professed his beliefs on a number of topics that greatly contrast with those of his predecessors, including his views on the Big Bang Theory and evolution.

“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.

“God is not a divine being or a magician, but the Creator who brought everything to life … evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”

We can certainly see evolution in dogs – thousands of years of human intervention with dogs have created hundreds of different breeds. While this isn’t natural evolution, it is an example of evolution in action. We still have wolves, and we have dogs, which have evolved from them.

Pope Francis is not the first to suppose that animals have a soul. Pope John Paul II said in 1990 that “animals possess a soul,” and “in this respect, man, created by the hand of God, is identical with all other living creatures.”

Let us not forget – the word animal comes from the Latin anima, which means soul.
