Teen’s trained service dog shot and killed outside Texas home
In Quinlan, Texas, a teen’s trained service dog was shot and killed outside of the family’s rural home on Sunday. The four-year-old golden retriever went outdoors for a dip in the pond, and shortly thereafter, Journey’s life ended.
According to a Facebook page, Justice4Journey, the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the apparent act of animal cruelty involving the dog’s shooting outside of Hannah Westmoreland’s home. Journey was rushed to a vet for emergency treatment but died as a result of his wounds.
Journey had been specially trained to detect Hannah’s blood sugar. The closely knit town had raised $10,000 for a service dog for Hannah nearly four years ago to help the now 15-year-old manage her diabetes. Journey had been a constant companion to Hannah. The two were extremely bonded.
A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for Journey’s medical bills, a reward and another service dog.
Rest in peace Journey.
