Katie watched the car pull away in confusion. Panic took over, and she ran after it with everything she had, hoping her family would stop and come back. The car never slowed down, and the distance between them grew wider with every step.

A Mother Dog Left With Nowhere to Go

Out of breath and devastated, Katie turned back to her puppies, who waited helplessly in a cardboard box. She curled her body around them, using herself as a shield against the cold and the fear. Despite her exhaustion, she stayed alert and refused to leave them unprotected.

A few compassionate people witnessed the heartbreaking scene and knew they couldn’t walk away. They immediately called a local animal shelter and pleaded for help for the abandoned mother dog and her tiny puppies.

Rescuers Arrive And Earn Her Trust

The shelter team rushed to the location and felt stunned by what they found. Katie stood guard with worried eyes, staying close to her puppies as if her presence alone could keep them safe. The sight of a mother dog forced into this situation shook everyone involved.

When the rescuers approached, Katie barked anxiously and held her ground. She no longer trusted easily and focused only on protecting her babies. With slow movements, calm voices, and patience, the team showed her they meant no harm.

Once Katie allowed them closer, the rescuers carefully lifted her and her puppies and transported them to a veterinary clinic for a full medical check-up.

A Safe Place And A New Beginning

At the clinic, Katie stayed alert and watched every hand that reached toward her puppies. She rested beside them while they slept, never letting them out of her sight. The veterinary staff respected her boundaries and gave her time to adjust.

As the days passed, Katie slowly relaxed. She began to understand she was finally safe. The vets examined the puppies and confirmed they were healthy and stable. The team later named them Zuma, Rocky, Marshall, Sweet, and Skye.

After a week of recovery and vaccinations, the shelter welcomed Katie and her puppies with open arms. Surrounded by care and affection, Katie finally rested without fear for the first time since her abandonment.

The shelter hopes loving forever homes will soon open their doors to this little family. Once the puppies are old enough for adoption, each of them will start a new chapter with people who will never betray their trust. Until then, Katie and her babies continue to heal, learning that kindness can follow even the deepest heartbreak.

When Suzette Hall, founder of  Logan’s Legacy 29, answered the plea for assistance with volunteers, they tried everything including traps and even pushing her towards the corners with baby gates, but she still refused to approach. She was just so loyal she wanted to wait for her “family” to return, and no amount of food offered to her, could make her trust anyone.

We heard coyotes at the park. She even dug a little hole to try to close her eyes and sleep, but each time a car came she looked up.

Very late into the night, Suzette and her friends continued their efforts to try and capture her, but by the first light of morning, she had disappeared. So many times, everyone looked for her, but no one had any intentions of giving up.

Later in the evening, Suzette was directed towards a neighborhood garage where the lonely pup had been hiding. And it was with a huge sigh of relief to know that this brokenhearted pup had survived the coyotes, the racing cars on the streets and other predators ready to attack.

it wasn’t easy at all to rescue her inside the garage, And it was heartbreaking figuring out she knew she had been abandoned.

And finally, this sweet loyal dog could leave her post, her little tree and the little hole she had dug. When captured, she finally let go and perhaps knew she had been rescued and was safe.

Meet Adalee. She is finally safe and fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow in her temporary shelter cage.

At the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, hearts have broken for Caicos. This 14-year-old girl belonged to a homeless woman who has not been found. Fortunately, the owner’s sister found Caicos just in time; lying amid urine and feces in a tent in a homeless camp.

On February 17, 2024, Caicos arrived at the shelter and will be on stray hold until Monday, February 26. After that date, this sweet senior could be scheduled to be humanely euthanized. Remember, the shelters are full, and Caicos needs more care than the shelter can offer.

Caicos is a geriatric pup who is underweight, has a Grade II heart murmur and most likely is stiff when she gets up as a result of arthritis. She hasn’t been eating much. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.

Of course, she’s an old gal and doesn’t exhibit much energy. She seems to be comfortable in her bed at the shelter and even when approached, Caicos doesn’t get up to greet anyone.

This wonderful older girl needs urgent rescue due to her age and medical conditions. She’ll need the appropriate care for a girl of her age, cardiac work-up and arthritic support. She also deserves lots of TLC to live out her golden years in comfort. Her medical needs exceed our capacity for care and she needs a rescue to help her leave the shelte

He is 10 years old, current on shots, already neutered, and deserving of a wonderful life to enjoy his “golden years” being a loved and pampered pup in a home. But amidst the joy, the underlying message remains. Vegas, despite his playful spirit, has been waiting patiently for a family to call his own. The shelter believes his playful behavior, which led to his surrender, is simply his way of expressing his desire to engage and have fun. “We are not sure why,” the shelter wrote, “but if you would really ‘look’ at him, you would see nothing but love.” Vegas would do best as the only pet in the house. He doesn’t like cats.

At the Trumbull County Pound in Warren, Ohio, Colby spends his days watching and waiting, hoping a visitor at the shelter will look his way. A few months ago, Colby was adopted, but through no fault of his own, the sweet guy was returned to the shelter. Tragically, Colby has been let down by humans too many times, and now he has earned the dubious title of being the longest resident at the pound.

Colby is stressed at the pound, and he so wants to be in his own home; one without the constant barking from other dogs, a home without all the strangers walking by and a home where he has a soft bed and no bars in front of him keeping him imprisoned.

Colby needs someone who sees his worth. He deserves someone who can promise him forever. He’s not disposable. He’s truly a really great dog that hasn’t been dealt the greatest hand in life but still continues to love people with every ounce of his being. He hasn’t given up on us. We can’t give up on him..

The neglect this poor dog suffered is incomprehensible. SEVERELY underweight, dehydrated, muscle wasting, severe dental disease, ocular opacity, penis stuck out of prepuce. This was apparently someone’s dog.

Don’t let her name fool you, this older lady still has “pep in her step”, according to her caretakers at Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue. She is roughly 10 years old who still enjoys short walks and patrolling for squirrels.

The rescue wrote, “There are two things that Grandma M loves the most, and that’s exploring new places or napping in a cozy nest of beds and blankets. While she doesn’t care much about toys or playing, she thoroughly enjoys her daily walks (AM, lunchtime, PM and once more before bedtime) 15-20 minutes of sniffy walks a day, and naps in between. M loves all people of all shapes, sizes and ages, and would prefer a home with kids old enough to know how to be gentle with her.”

Her ideal home would be where she is the only pet and with someone who is home more than they are gone. She loves to be around people. She is deaf but that doesn’t stop her from living life to the fullest.

No one came to claim the friendly pup, so she was put up for adoption. She is the definition of a proper lady with the best manners and the most adorable gray face.

Her caretakers describe her as a “sweet and social older gal who is brewing with energy”. Senior dogs like her are often passed by for younger dogs, but she still loves to play with toys and has a lot of love to give.

Her story was shared on the shelter’s TikTok with Yorkshire sporting a pumpkin costume in hopes of giving her the best treat for Halloween – a loving home.

The ideal person for Yorkshire would be with an active person who enjoys long walks or hikes. She is one of the “pup-kins” in the shelter’s “pup-kin” patch looking for a forever home. While they wait, they are being spoiled with pumpkin cups.

RezDawg Rescue, a foster-based rescue in Colorado, saw a post about the well-mannered pup and immediately stepped up to save her. They posted a plea for help from their supporters and a foster came forward just in time.

Sweet Susan was rescued and brought to an orthopedic veterinarian to be examined. The rescue told us, “It is unknown how her injury occurred or when.” The focus is on getting Susan the treatment she needs so she can walk and play without pain.

The vet recommended CBLO surgery to repair the cranial cruciate ligament injury in Susan’s knee. The surgery is costly but the only way to give Susan the best chance at regaining full mobility. The rescue reached out to Greater Good Charities’ Emergency Animal Medical fund for help.

The fund was created to help shelter pets like Susan get the medical care they needed and give them the second chance they deserve.

She will need a further 4-6 weeks of restricted activity and then slowly begin to increase her activity. Her current foster home will see her through recovery. Once she has fully recovered, there is no doubt that she will be quickly adopted as she is calm, sweet, and loves people. She is already spayed and current on all vaccinations.

She was started on pain medication and is waiting to have surgery.

Mabel is a Golden retriever blend who arrived at the Broward County Animal Control on October 26, 2023 as a stray. She had been reported to have been hit by a vehicle. She does have a visible scratch on her left front leg although she has been walking with seemingly little difficulty.

Sadly, Mabel is not doing well at the shelter and has been very nervous since arriving. Who can blame her; the noise, the constant barking and the strangers all scare the heck out of her. A shelter is no place for a senior dog.

This eight-year-old needs a quiet place to recuperate and feel loved.

One-year-old Luna was surrendered to the San Antonio Animal Care Services with her stuffed teddy bear. She’s waiting for her family to come back; sadly they are not going to reclaim her. The American staffie was surrendered on October 11, 2023; surrendered dogs are at immediate risk of euthanasia.
