According to WHIO News, animal control officers had been visiting the residence multiple times a day to check on the dogs and to leave notices for the pet owner. However, removing the dogs proved difficult because the pets were legally registered and the owner had to be tracked down first, and asked to sign over the pets before they could be removed.

After learning the dogs’ owner had been in jail since December 2015, rescuers took the man to court and legally seized the pets.

The two dogs were safely removed from the property today, around 8:00 p.m. and are currently being cared for by the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.

Lets hope these two dogs never again go hungry or left out to fend for themselves in freezing temperatures.

A lonely dog from Hendersonville, North Carolina, had little chances of being noticed and rescued from the neglectful life he had been subjected to, but this all changed thanks to a group of construction workers who noticed the dog back in September 2015. According to The Dodo, Demo the dog lived in a muddy outside pen, on the premises of a house that was semi-vacant. The dog had no real shelter other than a plastic dog house sunk in the mud. The pet owner hardly stopped by to check on the pet, and when he did, all he did to was throw food and water into the muddy pen. If it wasn’t for the construction workers assigned to work next door to the dog, no one would have ever known Demo existed, nor that he needed love and rescue. The hard working men fell in love with the dog, showed him affection, shared meals with the pet and improved the dog’s appalling living conditions.

They threw cedar shavings to give the pet a dry spot to walk on, and secured a tarp over the chicken wire fenced-in “kennel” Demo lived chained up and trapped in.

Thanks to these men, Animal Control visited the home and got Demo off his chains, but the dog still needed rescue. Various animal rescue organizations like Nadia’s Haven of Hope Foundation learned about Demo’s plight and started working to get the dog out of that hell, but due to unforeseen circumstances Demo could not be rescued.

The dog’s future did not look promising, but after The Dodo ran their first report on the forgotten dog, Demo’s luck turned and his future looked brighter than ever before. Just days after the report ran, local authorities were flooded with calls and emails from animal lovers across the world asking them to intervene and save the dog.

Hendersonville City Councillor Jeff Miller personally checked on the dog and learned he lived less than a mile away from Demo’s hell. Miller, along Hendersonville’s chief of police, Herbert Blake, and animal welfare activists paid a visit to Demo’s owner on Jan. 15, 2016. The goal, to ask for the dog to be surrendered. Fortunately, the owner was compliant and on that day, Demo left his hell for what now is nothing short of paradise.

According to a second report Demo’s original owner is in prison and it was the pet owner’s father who was caring for the dog. Authorities spoke with the dog’s caregiver and explained why they were concerned with the substandard care the dog was receiving. It took some convincing, but in the end, the elderly man willingly surrendered the pet.

Demo is now under the care of Blue Ridge Humane Society, a no-kill shelter. There the dog is receiving proper care and tons of love.

The former neglected pet has been given a new name, Noah, and for him the days spent alone, shivering in the mud and with no loving human touch is sight are forever gone.

Demo, a.k.a Noah will soon find a loving home of his own, but we must remember he is not the only animal suffering in silence. There are millions of dogs awaiting rescue. There’re thousands of dogs looking for a forever home. If you see a forgotten or invisible dog, do something, say something. Don’t expect someone else to speak up for a dog. You can be a dog’s saving voice.

Just a few hours after the New Year started, animal lovers from Cartagena, Colombia, were shocked and saddened to learn the story of a stray – now named Saori – who was rotting and starving to death while surrounded by dozens of locals and out of towners enjoying the festivities. The stray, probably born on the streets of the tropical city, didn’t know what love was, but on January 1st, her life would forever change thanks to compassionate strangers and a Facebook post.

Someone visiting the nearby small island of Playa Blanca captured the sad image above and immediately turned to social media and local animal rescuers to help the “invisible stray dog. The pet was sitting in front of a local police station, where not only police, locals and visiting tourists stood making plans for the new year, and even though officers and islanders knew of the dog’s existence, no one did anything to help her.

Saori was probably begging to be noticed and helped, and thanks to that image, her rescue and life change was just hours away.

The Facebook post pleaded for help:
“Could someone with a car please help us, we need someone who is willing to drive us to Playa Blanca to pick up this poor dog up and bring her to the clinic. I will never understand how people can go to Playa Blanca and see a dog in such a horrible state and continue to eat their lunch and not even share a bite of food with the dog. It is inhumane!”

Thankfully, a day later Cartagena Paws rescue secured transportation for the neglected dog. Saori was rushed to a vet clinic where Dr. Jairo found the pet suffered from skin ailments and advanced starvation. She was given fluids and was slowly given wet dog food, however Saori wouldn’t eat anything.

Accustomed to eating garbage and food scraps, rescuers slowly introduced chicken pieces and rice and the former stray started eating on her own.

Shawna-Lee, founder of Cartagena Paws, says the plan is to nurse Saori back to health and later transport her to a different city, Cali, where the dog will finish her healing process. The organization is collecting funds to cover all medical expenses and transport.

Saori has been under veterinary care for two days now and has shown great signs of improvements. She is a sweet-natured dog who was looking for was a bit of love.

It seems 2016 will be Saori’s year. She has been rescued and is on the right path to a better life.

If you’re interested in learning more about Saori and how you can help, please contact Cartagena Paws on their website or Facebook page.
