When you can’t hear or see, you tend to appreciate these little things even more.  Susie might not be able to run around, but that won’t stop her from going on adventures!

Her best friend doesn’t seem to mind being her personal chauffer – he’s just glad to be able to romp around, too!

While living in a shelter is a major challenge for any dog, it is especially difficult for a dog that was born with a disability. The dog in this video is living proof of that. This dog is named Rosie and she was born with a unique disability, one that made it hard for the shelter’s volunteers to be able to get her attention.

Heidi is a 14-year-old Jack Russell terrier. She’s also blind and deaf, and she needs constant attention. Her loving owner, Mike, says that she’s very feeble. So when she disappeared on a walk one day, he was convinced that she was as good as dead.

He takes her on daily walks on a trail, where he takes her leash off to let her wander and sniff around. He keeps a close eye on her, even if he knows that she wouldn’t get very far. But somehow this time, she managed to slip away from him, and into the shrubbery of the hillside. Mike says that it only took three minutes for her to disappear, and after he searched for days with no result, he knew she was dead.

But 14 days after her disappearance, Mike received a phone call that he says nearly “gave him a heart attack.” Some crews were working on the highway when they found the pup — miraculously alive — where they were supposed to dig, a full mile away from where Mike had lost her. The elderly and disabled dog survived those 14 days with no food or water, and even a big storm in the area.

Now she’s happily reunited with her owner — and hopefully she won’t get lost again!

Chelsea Goff, Neeva’s mom told KRQE News that she new from the birth of her daughter that the child had a hearing disability, and at an early age Neeva was taught to communicate with sign language. However, the family never expected their rescue dog Baxter to respond and understand Neeva as she signs.

To their surprise, Baxter understand and respond to Neeva’s sign language and the two developed a strong bond. Baxter is always by the child’s side and Neeva has taught the dog to respond to sign commands as sit, stay, go, and even “let’s go tuck you into bed.”

Goff does admits that Baxter responds better to these sign command when treats are involved, but either way the family is happy to see Neeva and Baxter become best friends.

Never in a million years did the family expect the free rescue dog they got from the shelter to become Neeva’s inseparable four legged best friend.

The Goffs adopted Baxter at no cost when another family fell in love with him but couldn’t keep him and paid his adoption fee.
