Last year, a dog named Carla was out walking through Germany’s Black Forest when she came upon a lone fawn.  They developed a bond, and even now, the young stag is still best friends with her, and comes to visit Carla in her part of the forest.

When Carla met the little guy on the tree farm in the woods, she nudged him with her nose and gave him a kiss.

“Carla immediately took up a mother role, when she found the abandoned baby stag during a hike through the forest,” owner Helga Kuderer told NBC News.

She and husband Andreas adopted the fawn, and called him Peterle.  They raised him on goat’s milk for six months before he was ready to make it on his own.  But he and Carla remained friends.

“Every day, Peterle visits Carla, they play around, cuddle and then eat some oatmeal and dog cookies together,” Kuderer said.

A year-and-a-half later, and visitors to the farm are still delighted to see the two frolicking through the trees.

Peterle is sometimes seen hobnobbing with other young stags, but is easily spotted because of his bright orange collar.

“The stag wears the signal colors, so that hunters in the region do not go after him,” Kuderer said.

The other animals on the farm have welcomed him as part of the gang.

“Only the goat needs to be kept locked inside at the moment because it likes to eat our Christmas trees.”

You usually wouldn’t expect dogs and cats to be best friends, right? Well, what about a 500lb cat and an 11lb dog? Surprisingly, this duo have become the best of friends at the Garold Wayne Interactive Zoological Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Bonedigger the lion is partially disabled as a result of a metabolic bone disease he was born with. Some of the dogs at the park noticed that this lion was different, and they tentatively warmed up to the lion as a cub. Milo, a miniature dachshund, has developed a special bond with Bonedigger, and they’ve been friends for years now.

The two are inseparable, and this unlikely friendship is insanely cute.

Milo has no problem with the fact that Bonedigger is a gigantic lion while he’s just a tiny pup. He even likes to lick Bonedigger’s teeth, and has absolutely no fear of being bit.

These two cuties love to play and eat together. Their size doesn’t matter at all to their friendship, and they’re best buds.

You do exactly what this group of animal-loving volunteers did.

Butch the dog was found roaming the streets of Pinson, Alabama, after spending two years on the streets. Butch had to eat scraps from garbage cans to survive until he was found a week before Thanksgiving.

He was then turned in to a local Boston Terrier Rescue Shelter. It was soon discovered that his trachea was leaking, his heart was in bad shape, and he had very little lung capacity. Butch had to be euthanized.

After learning his fate, the girls who found Butch decided to help him have the most memorable time of his life before he would be put to sleep. To start, they took Butch to meet Santa “Paws” for an early Christmas.

Then he met the local fire department and lived the dream as a firehouse dog.

Finally, he went to the park for an awesome going away party.

He met lots of new friends…

…received tons of treats…

… and even a few presents!

Not long after the party, Butch silently passed away at the home of the girls on Saturday after Thanksgiving.

When asked why the girls did so much for Butch, a dog they barely knew, what they said broke my heart. “Before he goes, I want him to look into my eyes, and I want to look into his eyes, and I want to whisper, ‘I love you.'”

Maybe these people did this for Butch because they were in the holiday spirit. Maybe they just love dogs. Either way, what these girls did for Butch in his final days brought more than a tear to my eye. Bravo girls, and may you rest in peace, Butch.
