What’s even worse is that this dog’s predicament was no accident.

The dog was completely stuck, and it wouldn’t have lasted much longer if Dinis hadn’t stopped to help.

They had no idea how long the dog had been trapped there.

It was clear, however, that someone had done this on purpose.

It was later determined that the pup had severe arthritis, which meant that it couldn’t have gotten into this situation on its own.

Dinis freed the dog’s legs first.

His own pooch even stepped in to help.

The dog was then taken to a local veterinary hospital, where it was given a clean bill of health. The strong animal persevered in spite of this heinous act of cruelty.

Dinis shared these photos on Facebook immediately after the incident, and has since received acclaim for saving the dog’s life. That being said, he’s quick to point out that he didn’t upload the photos to highlight his own actions, but to show the horrors of animal cruelty. In France, such cruelty is met with hefty fines and up to two years in jail.

After identifying the dog, its owner was charged with animal cruelty, and the abuser will be tried in March of next year. More than 135,000 people in France have signed a petition calling for maximum punishment.

The disorder, which effects over 5 million people each year, can lead those suffering to isolate themselves from the rest of the world. After suffering through many dark days alone, Capararo found a saving grace: his beautiful service dog, Bianca.

Today, the two are best friends, James even describes her as his “baby.” She’s helped him with the continuing day-to-day struggles with PTSD. But, now she’s the one who needs help battling her own illness.

Bianca suffers from a tumor on her brain stem. Sadly, the treatment she needs doesn’t come cheap.

Though the military does offer to pay for treatment for service dogs, they don’t provide that assistance for PTSD therapy dogs like Bianca.

So instead of losing hope, James established a Go Fund Me page to raise money the pup desperately needed.

Veteran Affairs is looking into ways they can change their position on providing assistance to PTSD service dogs, but Bianca doesn’t have the time to wait for that red tape.

Capararo’s funding page exceeded its goal, thanks to the kindness of strangers looking to save Bianca’s life.

Many people aren’t aware of just how awfully the animals in these facilities are treated. These photos from a recent raid by the ASPCA and local law enforcement in Needham, Alabama show the honest, and very grim, portrait.

Along with the 130 pups, some barely alive, they discovered the remains of several deceased dogs in the appalling conditions.

The malnourished and dehydrated dogs are now being treated for their various conditions, including dental disease, hypothermia, and ocular damage.

In a statement regarding the rescue, Vice President for ASPCA Field Investigations and Response Tim Rickey explained, “It’s clear that profit was put above the well-being of these dogs.”

“As is the case with most puppy mills, these dogs were treated as products for sale and not valued as living beings,” Rickey noted.

The dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, and Pomeranians, were taken to a temporary shelter, set up in an undisclosed location, while the investigation continues.

The owners, Rebecca Miller and Janice Freeman, were taken in and detained on charges of cruelty.

Dogs who were previously purchased from the facility were reported to be in severely poor health after being brought into their new homes.

On top of the medical care, the pups are receiving behavioral enrichment from the ASPCA’s Anti-Cruelty Behavior team. This will hopefully increase the dogs’ future adoptability. The organization aims to raise awareness not only to the terrible puppy mill conditions, but also to the fact that most pet store dogs are purchased from mills.
