It soon became clear that whoever had put the animal there had not done so mistaking her for dead. The dog wasn’t only buried up to her head, she was also tied down with a rope to prevent her from escaping.

Slowly but surely, Dinis managed to free the dog from the ground, offering his water to pull her back from the verge of death.

The dog has since been sent to an animal hospital where she is recovering from dehydration and shock. Thankfully, the dog’s life is reportedly no longer in danger.

Finding the person responsible for this cruel act might have been impossible had the dog not been carrying one key clue. According to Le Parisian, a tattoo was found on her body which led police investigators to her owner, who claims the dog had run away. Considering the dog is 10 years old and suffers from arthritis, authorities determined that explanation was “not very plausible” and charged the owner with animal cruelty.

Jonathan Hardman and his dog Rambo went hiking on Mount Bierstadt in Pike National Forest with a group of friends. The hike began with what started out as beautiful weather.
But, after reaching the top, the group noticed it became windy and chilly, so they started heading down. But there was no warning of lightning from their vantage point from 14,000 feet in the air.

About five minutes after they began their descent, this “one cloud came out of nowhere,” Hardman said. “I just feel this intense, awesome pain and I wake up on the ground with blood filling the back of my sunglasses. I couldn’t move my arms or legs.”
Hardman had no idea that he’d been struck by lightning, especially not straight on the top of his head. He slowly started to move his fingers, noticing his hands had turned blue and purple.

Doctors say that Rambo saved the life of Hardman and likely members of his group, by taking the large brunt of the bolt’s electric shock.

“It was like everything that happened in the classroom became reality,” Jordan explained to Newsnet5.

He ran down to the fire station and alerted the crew on duty.  Over a dozen firefighters quickly arrived on the scene.

“In my 20 years of fire service, I have never been to a fire where there have been so many animals in one home,” said Assistant Fire Chief Will Anderson.

“Mostly all of them were brought out in poor condition.  Some were okay, but the vast majority of them required resuscitation.”

Tragically, one dog and one cat died of smoke inhalation, but the remaining sixteen dogs and one cat were able to be revived.  Anderson confirmed that homeowner Catherine Krzywicki was not home when the fire began in the kitchen.

The animal lover runs a foster shelter out of her house, providing a home for animals – many of them seniors – who have no other.  She is a member of the Central Ohio Pomeranian Rescue, and takes in dogs from Cleveland Animal Control.

A fundraiser was initiated to help Krzywicki and her furkids, and the goal was quickly met.  However, more could always be used on costly repairs and caring for all her pets.  If you would like to donate, please click here.

While a lot of these animals don’t survive the process of being used in this way, some are lucky enough to be rescued. When that happens, there’s still a lot of work to be done to ensure they live healthy, happy lives. See, most of them have never been outside the laboratory to which they were confined – so horrendous.

In the video below, we watch as several animals, all of whom had previously been tested upon, experience freedom for the first time. In particular, three cautious Beagles, who had never been outside before, experience what it feels like to run and play in the grass on a sunny day for the first time. A truly beautiful moment to witness.

You can just see the pure joy slowly develop on these animals’ faces as they realize they are safe now! Living up to this moment with no sense of trust in humans means embracing their freedom might be easier said than done, but it’s amazing to see them slowly make that transition.
