A four-year-old labrador named Dayko saved many people over the course of his career. Sadly, he just died in the line of duty.

When a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Ecuador earlier this month, Dayko went to work rescuing people like it was any other day for the K-9 division of the Ibarra Fire Service.

The brave dog’s mission was to help find people who had been trapped beneath the rubble.

He managed to save several lives.

While rescuing more victims, however, he suffered a devastating heat stroke.

The fire department announced that Dayko died from a “massive coronary myocardial infarction and acute respiratory failure.” They expressed gratitude for the dog’s heroic efforts, stating that he always sprung into action when community members needed help.

Dayko’s death is even more disheartening when you think about how many more people he could have saved if he hadn’t passed away. He truly died a hero, and the people of Ibarra will never forget hm.

In Korea, buying, selling, and eating dog meat is legal. Dogs are raised in dog meat farms so they can be slaughtered for their meat. The only hope that these poor dogs have are organizations like the Humane Society International and Aniband.

Aniband is a non-profit animal rescue organization established in Seoul,Korea. Their mission is to prevent cruelty to animals, provide shelter and care for homeless animals, and promote public awareness about animal welfare issues.

Aniband, together with Doggie Protective Services (DPS Rescue), have saved dogs from dog meat farms in Korea. They have spent thousands of dollars so these dogs can be saved and so they can start a new life in the United States.

In the video below, you will see seven of the dogs they rescued taking their first steps of freedom in U.S. soil. It was such a beautiful and happy moment that the rescuers can’t help but become emotional and cry with tears of joy.

Hello there! Thank you so much for viewing this fundraiser. This is for my dog Bailey, a rehabilitated rescue dog who is a gorgeous 6-year-old Kelpie x Labrador. Bailey is a beautiful dog who requires $5,000 worth of surgery to his leg.  He tore his cruciate ligament in his right leg some months ago. I did not have the money for the very expensive surgery, so (with the vets supervision and agreement) waited to see if it would improve over time. Unfortunately it has not. 

This affects Bailey severely in that he struggles with walking. Depending on the day and the weather, he can’t get up on his own. It is progressively getting worse. He can only walk sometimes, and always with a heavy limp. He is constantly in pain, and often cries. Obviously, for a very active Kelpie cross who LOVES his daily walks and play times with his best doggie friend, Millie, this is horrible. He is on daily anti-inflammatories and painkillers. Our surgeon said that he has 7-10 years left of a good life ahead of him, so to leave him crippled is not an option. He will not be able to walk again without pain unless we have surgical intervention.

As his leg is growing worse, I am reaching out to the online community with an open heart, asking if anyone feels to help give this precious dog the happy life he deserves. Every little bit helps. I am hoping to book him into surgery in three to four weeks to prevent further damage being done.  The vet only accepts in full payment up front. The surgery is just over four and a half thousand, and the subsequent x-ray is around $350. (I can get a paper quote to scan into this page from the vet directly if you would like, please feel free to ask).

Bailey’s Story:
I adopted Bailey from a rescue centre when he was young. He had been severely abused; he had many broken bones and was deeply traumatised.  He was going to be put down because the rescue home believed that he was too damaged and would require too much rehabilitation to be adopted by anybody.  I came across his picture on an adoption website, and fell in love immediately with the little black dog with the saddest eyes you could imagine. I went to pick him up the same day, as he was due to be put down the following day.

It was a long journey to rehabilitation, a lot of work and a lot of love. It took him time to allow any kind of affection. Men were a big problem, as was any kind of hat or glove. He was never hostile, just terrified all the time.  The adoption centre believed the previous owners had tried to make him more aggressive, either to be a guard dog or for dog fighting… unfortunately you couldn’t meet a gentler dog, so they were unsuccessful. He was too scared to eat if we were in the room, and only would drink out of a shallow dish for a time (they believe that he was held under water to make him more of a fighter).

Fast-forward to six years later and Bailey is the most beautiful dog you could imagine. He is so loving, gentle and goofy. He has been completely healed of his traumatic past. I have had so many people say that he is the sweetest dog they’ve ever met, that they’ve never seen a dog so good with kids. He is so friendly and loving that they can’t believe his past history.

Bailey is a very beloved dog, who has many wonderful years ahead of him. Other than this problem, he is completely healthy and used to be very active before his injury.     During the surgery they will open up his leg, cut away the bone and rework the damaged ligament and joint. This is a very common surgery with a very high success rate. We will be going through the North Coast Veterinary Specialists, and our regular vet is Mountain View Vet.

Every little bit helps and is so appreciated. Anything to get me closer to the goal means him getting the surgery earlier and healing faster. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my precious dog Bailey.

“She was completely skin and bones,” Beach told Fox CT. “She walked very slowly, like everything hurt.”

Beach approached the dog and after realizing how skinny and abused the pet was, she called police. Officers were dispatched to Bernardino Avenue to pick up the dog and transport her to an animal clinic.

Veterinarians examined the pet, found no microchip on her and said she was approximately one or two years old. A healthy dog at that age should weigh between 40-60 lbs, but the abused pet only weighed 15 lbs.

Enfield Animal Control is keeping the dog and nursing her back to health. Once she is healthy she will be made available for adoption, meanwhile there is an ongoing police investigation and rescuers hope the criminals who abused the young dog are apprehended.

“We’ve never had a dog in this bad of shape come into the pound before,” said Animal Control Officer Eric Boucher. “[This is] plain neglect, abuse animal cruelty.”

As Williams regained consciousness, he heard someone telling him to be still. Emergency workers put him on a stretcher and pulled him from the subway, and made sure the dog was not badly injured.

‘I’m feeling amazed,’ Williams said. ‘I feel that God, the powers that be, have something in store from me. They didn’t take me away this time. I’m here for a reason.’

Police said both Williams and the dog were taken to a hospital where they were expected to recover. Williams says he is not sure why he lost consciousness, but he is on insulin and other medications.

Orlando, a seriously laid-back dog, was at the hospital making new friends — and he will be rewarded with some type of special treat, Williams said, and will be given plenty of affection and scratches behind the ears.

Williams, of Brooklyn, has been blind since 1995, and Orlando is his second dog. The lab will be 11 on Jan. 5, and will be retiring soon, Williams said. His health insurance will not cover the cost of a non-working dog, so he will be looking for a good home for him.

If he had the money, Williams said, ‘I would definitely keep him.’

An elderly woman was pulled out from her burning home by her neighbors in the middle of the night. At 11 o’clock, the 67-year-old woman was sleeping in her living room when she woke up to a massive fire. She crawled into the garage, but she was trapped because she couldn’t open the door. While all of this was happening, the neighbor’s dog, was barking frantically. The Boxer wouldn’t stop barking till her humans got out of bed and came outside. The neighbors then hurried next door and saved the elderly woman. Watch the video below for the full story.

The neighbors may have saved the woman, but I believe the true hero in this story is the neighbor’s dog. If it wasn’t for her barking, they wouldn’t have gotten out of bed to save the elderly woman. This dog should be given a reward, don’t you agree?

It took six and a half hours to save these two dogs that fell into a deep ravine in south-eastern Finland. 10-year-old dachshund Daphne and 4-year-old Fawn Brittany Basset Ester were chasing badgers when they fell into ravine. They were trapped there for two days, but luckily, the dogs are now recovering well from the traumatizing experience.

 In his youth, Bennie saved his family from a house fire.  Then at 10, he found himself abandoned at a boarding facility and shuffled to a rescue group.   At first he was sad and confused, but now he has a reason to smile again – he’s getting a new home!

According to the Daily Mail, the chocolate Lab had to be surrendered because his owners had a child who Bennie did not get along with.  Soon he was rescued by Toronto-based Canine Haven.

“He was surrendered to a boarding facility in Toronto.  Luckily my sister works there and she reached out to me since I run Canine Haven,” said Tarah Motuzas.

Bennie’s story was shared with their fans, many of whom had harsh words for his former family.  But because Bennie had been at the kennel before, Motuzas saw the positive side of the situation:

“I think surrendering him to a place where he knows people and is comfortable was the best they could’ve done for him.  It’s better than a shelter.”

However, she followed up with a reminder that it is up to owners to provide for their pets.

“These are our companions – we are supposed to look after them, care for them, and keep them out of harm’s way.”

Applications for Bennie flew in, but it was discovered that he was not good around cats or other dogs, so he would require a quiet home with no pets or small children.  Soon – possibly by the end of the day – Bennie will be going to his brand new home!
