Dogs become members of our families and the names we choose often reflect the trends around us. In 2016, human names for dogs increased 28%, that’s 2% more than last year.

Pop culture has taken over everyone’s daily life, so much so that they’re even naming their animals after movies, TV characters, or celebrities. 53% of dog owners have named their pets after pop culture names.

Top Pokemon names:

Immobile old Pug gets a new lease on life thanks to the magic of socks

Leia the pug found her forever home a little later that most pups do in their life life, but that hasn’t stopped her from enjoying the past two years with her new momma and dad.

Things were going as well as they good for Leia, until her owners installed new wood floors in their home and the senile old pup stopped walking around as much. According to the Leia’s owner “Last fall we ripped out our carpets in our condo and installed the wood flooring and found that she was slipping and sliding and not getting the hang of the floors at all.”

They were desperate to find a solution to help Leia, so they turned to something peculiar – tiny socks! The little grippers on the bottom of the socks help Leia from slipping and sliding, as well as getting up. She now has an entire collection of themed socks that she happily rocks every single day.

The socks have managed to keep Leia’s character from changing, and most importantly will keep her safe in her ripe old age.

She loves them so much that she even commits the fashion faux pas of wearing them to bed.

Who knew a tiny human could save a rescue?

There’s a special bond between dogs and their human friends and there’s nothing greater then finding a dog that just fits in to your dynamic. That’s what happened between Nora, an 8 year old rescue, and little Archie.

Elizabeth Spence, Archie’s mom, loves taking pictures of her kids and has been sharing them on her Instagram for the last few years, but it’s only when she saw the connection between her son Archie and her dog Nora that she saw the beauty and security that a shy rescue dog found in taking naps with her son.

Seven years ago, the Spence’s rescued Nora from a puppy mill in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was a 1-year-old English Pointer, born and raised in deplorable conditions and needed a big rescue. The Spence’s were all to happy to assist.

Coming into the home, she was afraid of everything, and it took a lot of coaxing to get her out of her shell. It was only when she met, now 11-month old, Archie, that she really blossomed into the sensitive and amazing dog that she is.

Archie, probably the cutest kid in the world, grew up around rescues, as the family in total has 2 dogs, 3 cats, and he’s got 2 older siblings, so he’s not phased by having a dog follow him around. He was drawn to Nora, and she became his protector.

Especially at nap time. In an interview with the Winnipeg Free Press, she mentions that she’ll nurse Archie and place him on the bed, with Nora watching over and the second that he’s down for a nap, she’s right in there, snuggling beside him.

What’s even more amazing is that Spence has become an advocate for adoption and rescues, using her Instagram photos of Nora and Archie to talk about the wonderful things that can happen when you save a dogs life.

Based on these photos, rescuing Nora was a brilliant idea. She loves her human and he loves her right back.

If that doesn’t getcha in the feels, I don’t know what will..

When they’re not napping, they’re always playing together.

Nap time looked so comfy, that soon Remi, the Spence’s other Pointer, joined in.

The cats would jump in on that as well.

The bed looks so comfortable, and look how peaceful everyone looks. Now that’s what I call the perfect entourage; cute kids and happy rescues.

Everyone deserves to be happy, especially the doggos.

Sick doggo’s final ride turns out to be just what he needed

Meet Maverick. Maverick is about the luckiest dog alive, simply because against all odds he’s still around to wag his tail.

Not only was Maverick rescued from a kill shelter, where he was mostly skin and bones, but he’s recently been diagnosed with Lymphoma.

His family did what any family would do; they fought it. The first round of chemotherapy was a success and Maverick went into remission. Two months ago, however, it came back and the chemo made Maverick so weak, he couldn’t walk. Everything looked dire and they worried that this would his last days.

So his owner Joey Maxwell had a brilliant idea. He put Maverick on a wagon and took him for walks through the town. Thinking that this might be it, he wanted Maverick to enjoy his last days, being outside and just loving life.

They went to the local hardware store, and knowing that all of their savings had been spent on chemo for Maverick, they had very little money for a wagon. After sharing his story, Maxwell and Maverick got a discount on a some wheels from the touched employees, to make the ride extra comfortable for Maverick.

I mean how can you not love this guy? He’s adorable!

Originally the plan was to take it day by day, but every day they go for a walk, and the neighbours make a point to give Maverick a pat.

Just look how much he loves the rides and his adoring supporters.

And the town gives him so much love.

But you should never discount the power of love, because what looked like Maverick’s last week, turned out to be his motivation to fight.

Maverick got up a few days ago, with the help of a wheelchair and he’s moving on his own.

Even sitting up unaided. How’s that for a turnaround? This guy is one hell of a fighter.

Father and son team rescues abandoned pets from flood waters

Reddit user DUSTYHAM shared these photos of his dad and little brother saving animals from flood waters in Brazoria County, Texas. His dad estimates that they have rescued 40 pets so far. They take them to a temporary shelter set up by the Humane Society.

Abused dog comforts another pup who’s been through Hell

Despite being only 4-months-old, Sammie the boxer has already endured a lifetime of abuse. He was spray-painted, dragged behind a car, shot in the head and then left to die.

Before I continue on, let’s just stop and think about what we would all do if we discovered who the monster(s) were behind this atrocity. OK, breath, compose yourself…and moving on. Thanfully, somehow, Sammie survived the brutal beating and was rushed to Rescue Dogs Rock New York as soon as he was found.

It was there where Sammie met Simon, a border collie who was also rescued and was recovering from injuries. Both dogs were taken in just weeks apart, and the moment Simon encountered Sammie, he embraced the poor little pup.

It seemed as though Simon knew exactly what Sammie was going through. In their first encounter, Simon walked over and placed his paw on the surgery table in an attempt to comfort him.

The co-founder of Rescue Dogs New York, Jackie O’Sullivan, warmly described the situation. “The compassion and understanding between animals is beyond me.” She went on to say that Simon routinely checks on his little friend, offering cuddles and kisses as support.

Although Sammie will likely need more surgeries, along with physical and mental therapy, having a friend by his side will help him rise from the ashes of ruthless abuse.
