What’s even worse is that this dog’s predicament was no accident.

The dog was completely stuck, and it wouldn’t have lasted much longer if Dinis hadn’t stopped to help.

They had no idea how long the dog had been trapped there.

It was clear, however, that someone had done this on purpose.

It was later determined that the pup had severe arthritis, which meant that it couldn’t have gotten into this situation on its own.

Dinis freed the dog’s legs first.

His own pooch even stepped in to help.

The dog was then taken to a local veterinary hospital, where it was given a clean bill of health. The strong animal persevered in spite of this heinous act of cruelty.

Dinis shared these photos on Facebook immediately after the incident, and has since received acclaim for saving the dog’s life. That being said, he’s quick to point out that he didn’t upload the photos to highlight his own actions, but to show the horrors of animal cruelty. In France, such cruelty is met with hefty fines and up to two years in jail.

After identifying the dog, its owner was charged with animal cruelty, and the abuser will be tried in March of next year. More than 135,000 people in France have signed a petition calling for maximum punishment.

She has what’s called short spine syndrome, or baboon dog syndrome.

When LeRoy found Cuda, her shortened spine was squishing all of her organs. She required immediate medical attention.
But now Cuda is an integral and loving part of the LeRoy family.

…Which includes four other dogs and LeRoy’s husband, who’s happy with his reluctant decision to welcome the special needs pup into his home.
Cuda got nothing but love at home…

But with her first public outing came points and mean-spirited giggles from other pet store goers. The sneering and snickering sent the dog’s mom out of the store with heartbreak.
In an effort to channel the comments to something positive, LeRoy entered Cuda in the World’s Ugliest Dog competition in 2011…

Although she didn’t win, public opinion of her quickly turned around.
Soon, whenever she went out for a walk, everyone wanted to meet her!

With all this attention, LeRoy decided it was time to make a Facebook page for Cuda, in order to raise awareness about special needs dogs.

She wanted there to be a place online where parents and prospective parents of special needs dogs could go to become informed. LeRoy hoped to form a community to help raise awareness to the general public.
Cuda has also been diagnosed with diabetes, which is a full-time job to keep in check.

The LeRoy household has totally changed their way of life to attend to Cuda’s insulin needs…but it’s worth it.
As if finding her true forever home wasn’t enough to make this pup content, she’s now helping others!

Cuda is a certified therapy dog, bringing joy to those who need it most.

To think that someone didn’t want to give this cutie a chance at happiness breaks my heart, but she’s spreading a message of love and awareness that will hopefully, one day, prevent stories like hers from occurring again.

After Theia was hit by a car, doctors assume that the driver tried to conduct a make-shift mercy-killing by hitting her in the head with a hammer, and proceeded to bury the dog in a nearby field.
The pup, still very much alive, then found it in herself to dig her way out of her early grave.

Sara Mellado heard about the pup through Facebook, and immediately decided to foster her. She brought Theia into her home and got her the medical attention she needed.
But while her spirits are high and she showers all the doctors and her foster family with kisses, she still needs to have surgery.

Due to sinus complications leftover from the hammer hit, as well as a dislocated jaw from the car accident, she has a hard time breathing.
Mellado created a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Theia’s extensive surgeries.

She needs to raise $10,000 to make the life-changing surgeries possible.
Without the procedures, Theia will continue to lose sleep, as she’s constantly woken up by her inability to breathe regularly.

Mellado says, “She’s a true miracle dog and…deserves a good life.”
And who could possibly disagree with her?

She’s a real trooper.

It didn’t take them long to find the poor dog huddled by the side of a fence. They also immediately noticed the cute creature’s large size. The pair were told that the dog would run away when anyone tried to come near it, so they had to be smart about their approach. While Jacqueline distracted the dog with food, Eldad managed to sneak up behind and get a leash around the dog’s neck. The poor guy couldn’t actually spot Eldad, since the fur around his face was severely overgrown and completely covered his eyes.

While Eldad and Jacqueline placed the Old English Sheepdog into the back of the car, they realized he was actually a she, and decided to call the loving dog Shayna.
