Baylor Football announced Tuesday Ishmael Zamora, the player that beat his Rottweiler repeatedly with a belt on a video released to social media, will be suspended for three games by the university.  Zamora’s actions resulted in a Class “C” Misdemeanor citation from City of Waco Police, resulting in the University and athletics administration subsequent disciplinary actions.

Jim Grobe, Acting Head Football Coach, was quoted in the University’s press release saying, ““Our football program does not condone this behavior by anyone. We are deeply saddened by it and have worked together with the University to hold Ishmael accountable for his actions.”

The official Baylor Statement On Sophomore Wide Receiver Ishmael Zamora also states that Zamora is required to do 40 hours of community service that ” will each him kindness and respect toward animals,” partake in counseling, and the dog must be given up to an animal-friendly home, in addition to the citation and game suspension.  However, Zamora will be permitted to practice with the team, as long as he is meeting the dictated provisions as related to his actions.

“I am sorry that I took out my frustration on my dog and accept the punishment that comes with it. This incident will never, ever, happen again,” Zamora said. “I truly love my dog, however, I know that my actions showed differently and I know that I made a big mistake.

“I apologize to my family, teammates, Baylor University and our fans for my actions,” he added.

“Eventually, I hope that everyone can see who I really am and that I am not a terrible person. This incident does not and will not define me, and I know that I am the one who will have to prove that to others in the days ahead.”

Sammie was rescued after being shot, dragged by a car and spray painted.  What makes the photo even more special is the fact that Sammie and Simon are perfect strangers.

Both dogs were rescued from South Carolina.  Both dogs know just how cruel some humans can be.  However, they seem to know when the other just needed a friend.  It just goes to further prove that animals have feelings, just like we do.  We can learn a lot from this photo…

Sammie is doing better now.  He’s undergone a few surgeries, however is nowhere near out of the woods just yet.  He’s survived being shot with a .22 caliber bullet, and the wound from that is now healing nicely according to vets caring for him.

Hopefully, both Sammie and Simon will find that forever family that they both so greatly deserve.

Neighbors and residents said the dog could be seen on the 16^th floor balcony of an apartment.  It was very cold outside, and witnesses said that the dog was trying frantically to get back into the apartment.  Apparently, the dog’s human was not in the apartment at the time, but decided that the balcony was going to be an OK place to keep the dog, despite the frigid temperatures.

Someone put pictures and information about the dog on social media website.  That set off a domino effect that lead to tons of posts all over social media outlets about what was going on.  It was only a matter of time before someone called the police in.

They did show up to the apartment, and finally did get a hold of the person living there.  The people that live in the building and in the surrounding area relentlessly called law enforcement of every kind, trying to get someone to at very least let the dog in.  The dog was put back in the apartment, but that was as far as law enforcement could take things.

The police filed a report, and advised the person that should something of this nature, or anything that could be considered neglect or abuse will be very bad for them, legally.  At this time, the dog is still there, but that hasn’t stopped people from commenting on social media.  Many believe that the dog should have been removed, but given that there were no prior reports of animal neglect or abuse by the resident in question, the warning is the best they could do.

Todd Hofley is the president of the Liberty Village Residents Association (you can click the link to view the Facebook page).  Since the incident occurred at the complex, he has proposed a new set of regulations.

“I will bring forward a potential template for pet owners that stipulates if there is reasonable belief that their pet is in immediate and life threatening danger because of getting outside that the condominium corporation has the right to enter the unit and bring the animal inside,” said Hofley on Facebook.

In mid-February, Lisa Parker (ßlink to her Facebook page… just in case you’re interested) posted a photo of her five-month-old puppy Ludo wistfully wearing a urine-soaked pad that had been taped to his head. The photo has since been removed, but some who saw it took screenshots.

Parker said that five minutes after having been outside, Ludo peed in the house, and as punishment, she soaked up the urine with a pad and then forced him to wear it.  Her friend, Nancy Stonehouse-Poitras, said she loved the idea, and her other friend, Chastity Kribble asked if it worked.  (Both have since made their accounts private).  Parker’s response revealed that she has inflicted even worse abuse on her dogs in the past:

Dozens of people have negatively “reviewed” the Everett Police Department’s Facebook page by demanding that they take action against Parker. In one of the reviews, someone sensibly commented “This dog could have a UTI, stones, kidney problems, etc. Instead of trying to figure out what’s going on, she decided to ‘shame’ him. She has done nothing but shame HERSELF!”

In a post she made about Ludo, Parker said: “Reminds me, a LOT, of his Mamma. So smart, so calm, so personable and friendly, so loving.” Really…. loving. Loving parents – of humans OR animals – do not punish their kids for having accidents by taping urine-soaked pads to their faces, or forcing them to eat their own feces!

Pablo told Clarin.com he took his three dogs, Tayron, Ayken and Afro out for a walk in his Buenos Aires, Argentina, neighborhood. When they returned home he thought all three dogs had gone up to the apartment with him but that wasn’t the case. Only Ayken and Afro went up and Tayron stayed outside the complex. The pet owner didn’t realize his dog was missing until hours later and by then Tayron was gone.

The couple say the black French Bulldog is a very special dog. The Argentinean couple had been trying to conceive a child and had even experienced two failed IVF treatments. During this difficult time Tyron provided them with the love and peace they needed. Fortunately, the calm environment the dog helped create allowed the wan-to-be-parents to naturally conceive.

When the dog went missing, the owners didn’t hesitate to pull all stops and spend whatever was necessary to bring their dog back home where he belonged. They created a Facebook page and hired a printing company to produce 6,000 lost dog flyers they plastered all over the city. Thanks to the flyers Tyron was found and returned home.

On Jan. 31st, Tyron was accidentally left outside the gate, but the loyal dog waited on the sidewalk for his owner to come get him. As the dog waited for Pablo or the gate to open, a fifteen-year-old boy walking by saw the pet and knew he was lost. The teenager sat next to the dog for an hour waiting for someone to come by looking for the pet, and when no one did, the good Samaritan called his father, told him about the lost dog and asked to be picked up long with the dog.

For 24 days the teenager and his father, named Fernando, took care of Tayron. They walked him four times a day, bought him a new leash and even allowed him on their beds. All this time, the rescuers hoped to eventually reunite the dog with his owner.

During school hours, Shelton was welcomed inside the school’s library – he even had his specially marked box where he peacefully slept – but once school closed, Shelton had to return to his life on the streets.

From Monday through Friday Shelton was fed by the librarians, and on the weekends a kind woman took over the feeding task. However, whenever the school closed for summer or winter break, there was no one looking out for Shelton or his welfare. He had no safe place to sleep and no constant meal. If it rained, or if it was too cold or too hot outside, Shelton had to find a way to survive on his own.

Zaira Kordi, a volunteer with the organization learned about the homeless dog after two librarians contacted her to tell her his story. She set out to meet and help him.

“Shelton is very special, he is not your regular stray dog,” said Kordi. “He has a lot of personality and is very gentle and friendly. He adores children and is always looking for a loving human touch. You can tell he is not happy as a stray dog and he is looking for a home of his own where he will be really loved.”

Kordi met Shelton at Plaza July 9th during a musical concert. There were more than 300 people present, but the rescuer says that on that day Shelton was invisible. No one noticed him and no one cared.

After meeting the homeless dog, Kordi took a few photographs and posted them on Facebook. She hoped his story would be shared and maybe someone from the area would come forward to adopt him. His story was shared by many and thanks to that, Shelton moved into his forever home today.

“For a street dog it takes time to adapt to being a house pet,” said Kordi “However, if Shelton is happy and adapts to his new life and home, this [referring to the photograph below] will be his forever home.”

Shelton’s story was shared more than 800 times on Facebook, and that is how María Rosa Zago and her family learned about the dog. The Zago family adopted Shelton and now the former dog who found refuge inside the library during the day,will have two human siblings, a roof over his head and best of all, unconditional love.

Zago was not the only one interested in the pet, but her home was the one that matched Shelton’s needs the best.

“Many families became interested in adopting Shelton,” said Kordi. “I hope those families who were not selected as Shelton’s new owners will open up their hearts to adopt one of the many other street dogs that need help. There are so many of them and they all need a home. All of them suffer abuse and all of them have been abandoned, I just hope we can finalize more adoptions and get many more stray dogs off the streets.”
