That’s why the Plattsmouth Fire Department in Nebraska didn’t immediately believe the caller who told them that a 120-pound dog was stuck 20 feet up on a tree.

“We kind of looked at each other,” said Lieutenant Jon Hardy. “They can’t be serious.”

But when they arrived on the scene, sure enough, they saw Kora, who is three quarters Great Dane and one quarter Mastiff, perched on a large tree branch.

When her owner got home from dinner, she was surprised to not find Kora.  But she could hear her whimpering, and followed the sound to her backyard.  It is likely that she chased a raccoon up there.

Over a dozen responders came to help get the lumbering beastie down.  They wanted to put a leash or harness around her, but Kora wasn’t having it.  The team held a tarp below the branch in case she fell, and it’s a good thing they did.

Kora plummeted from the tree and gracefully landed on the safety net.  It was barely down before she took off to her house, glad to have all four paws back on solid ground.

“She never hit the ground.  It worked like we hoped,” Hardy said.  “I’ve been doing this 12 years and this is the first dog we got out of a tree.”

Though squeezing her through caused her to be pinched a little, the team easily managed the task of getting her out.  Once free, she was naturally grateful, and doled out kisses at the rescue group’s home base.

And Animal Aid didn’t just save her once – they did it twice.  She also had mange, which would have eaten her alive had she not been taken in.

The cops then responded to the call. In the video, you will see one of the police officers going inside the storm drain to rescue the poor pup. And while the rescuers are doing their best to save the puppy, the mother dog watches them closely.

Thanks to the efforts of these brave people, mama dog and her pup were reunited.

We just hope that this family has or will find a loving forever home where they can be safe and cared for.

The hunter wanted to place a duck decoy in the lake but had no clue that entering the muddy waters would put his life at risk. Submerged in the  lake, the man’s legs got trapped in the heavy mud. He couldn’t free his legs and had to figure out a way to call for help.

The hunter’s dog patiently waited for his master’s return to shore, but with each passing minute the dog grew worried. Luckily for the hunter, he had his cell phone with him and  was able to call authorities.

When rescuers arrived, they realized  they too would get stuck in the mud if they tried to reach the man, but the dog was the only one able to swim without getting stuck. Rescuers tied a rope to the pet’s harness and had him reach his owner, that’s how the dog became the hunter’s only life line.

Once the dog reached his owner, the hunter untied the rope, secured it to his body and waited for a rescuer to reach him. The rescuer was also tied to the rope and with the help of others back on safe land, the trapped hunter was pulled from the mud.

If it wasn’t for the heroic dog, the hunter would have spent more time in the frigid waters while rescuers devised a plan to reach him without getting themselves trapped in the mud too.

On February 19, 2015, Karen Ziegler from Mesa, Ariz., returned home to find her husband desperately looking for their 12-year-old black Labrador pet named BB. Ziegler’s husband said he knew the dog was on the property and had been searching for her for hours to no avail. When the couple checked their backyard, they could hear BB crying and as they followed the sound, they discovered the dog had entered a tortoise den and was stuck.

The Zieglers own a pet turtle and she had dug a den leading to underneath the homeowner’s driveway, where the turtle usually keeps cool. However on that day, the turtle was out in the yard while BB was stuck in the den.

Ziegler called 911 and the operator told her a rescue unit wouldn’t usually be dispatched for this type of rescue, but because the pet owner was in a panic, the operator said she would call firefighters and see if they would be able to help.

Within minutes , three firefighters from Station 211 arrived at the home and assessed the situation. They realized they were not equipped for this rescue and called Station 204 for help. Four more firefighters arrived with heavy equipment ready to rescue BB.

In Yuma, Ariz., a dog tried to get through an iron fence but got stuck in the process. Local firefighters were called to the scene and thanks to their hydraulic tool, the “Jaws of Life,” the dog was safely pulled from the metal bars.

On February 9, 2015, Fire Department spokesman Mike Erfert said the rescue unit was called to the 2200 block of Walnut Avenue in Yuma, after a person spotted the dog and realized the pet needed professional help to get out of the fence.

The unidentified and unregistered dog was not harmed while trapped in between the fence’s bars, nor was he injured while firefighters worked on widening the fence to free him.

Once free, the dog was transported to animal control. Hero rescuers hoped the dog was able to find a good home.
