The rescuers followed him, leaving food that had been infused with tranquilizers so they could get near enough to get him.  He ate some, but was also deliberate in trying to bury other portions, but demonstrated little strength for digging.  It took some time, but the tranquilizers were able to take effect and he was safely captured and transported to where he received veterinarian care for his injuries and illness.

This is a sad story about how some people seem to think animals, even those who are providing a service and making a direct contribution with their good work, are disposable.  The good news is he looks like a completely different dog now, handsome and healthy, and looking for his own forever home.

Williams told NBC 4 New York she found the abandoned dog by pure chance. Her own dog broke lose from the leash and led the woman to the discarded lab-pit mix.

“She wouldn’t stand up for me,” said Williams, “so I just wrapped the coat around her and picked her up.”

While carrying her home, the kind woman noticed blood dripping from the dog’s paws and that’s when she realized the pooch had been frozen to the ground.

Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Windsor Terrace was called to help the injured dog. She was rushed to a veterinarian and it was determined that aside from the paw injuries, the dog also suffers other serious ailments. Vets and rescuers are not sure if she will make a full recovery, but everyone involved hopes she has a fighting spirit and pulls through.

Sean Casey says the lab-pit mix is only alive today because Williams found her and reached out for help.

Just last weekend, Joey was abandoned on the streets with nothing more than a blanket and a plastic bowl with water. The loyal pet stayed on the very same spot he last saw his owner as if to say he is staying there waiting for whoever left him to return.

Community members knew no one was coming back to get him and that’s when they came together to save this pet. Rescuers told The Dodo that a neighbor dropped off a box Joey could use as shelter. As the weather turned rainy and cold another person draped a tarp over the box for additional protection. Others dropped off blankets and food and worked towards gaining his trust, but as expected he trusted no one and every time someone tried to approach him he would run away.

What was needed was a trained professional to rescue him but no trained professional contacted by the caring residents had answered the calls or agreed to help.

“None of us are professionals,” Julian Rovito says. “We need people to help us with potential fosters. We’re willing to help with vet bills and stuff like that. We’re all dog lovers.”

Just yesterday after four days on the streets Joey was rescued. He was safely captured and with the use of a crate he was transported to a veterinarian. Best of all, Animal Recover Mission stepped up to sponsor the dog’s medical costs.

“Joey is at the vet,” said Rovito. “He pretty much passed out when he got to the run. The doctors didn’t want to probe him too much so they gave him antibiotics, flea/tick meds. He is getting a ton of attention and even gave a female handler a tail wag today!”

The once abused and unwanted dog will no longer go hungry or cold. From now on all he will now is love and this is all thanks to the animal loving community who helped rescue him.

Zoey was lucky to be rescued from this home and adopted right into a new loving and fulfilling life. She enjoys hikes and gets to walk all over and spend time like a regular dog would – something she was unable to do for many years.

“In a quiet house in our city we heard a thin yelping sound. It was a dog whose life was near its end,” said Zselyko. “We approached a decrepit gate and there he was, an extremely skinny big dog with sad eyes. When he saw us, he slowly approached us. [The dog] clearly didn’t have any strength because he was hungry, thirsty, cold, and who knows what else.”

Even though Vucko could have easy escaped the home – the fence was short and if the dog wanted to jump over it, he could have – he stayed and waited for his humans to come back for him. They never did.

The animal rescuer contacted neighbors and learned Vucko’s owners had recently moved away abandoning him. The dog owners left and didn’t bother to leave a bowl of water, let a lone a plate of food for Vucko.

“They left him in a yard full of trash. They literally sentenced him to death,” said Zselyko.

Rescuers knew that Vucko needed help. They fed him and made arrangements to transport him to a safe house. Rescuers knew that if they left the dog at the abandoned home, the pet would starve or be killed by animal control.

Zselyko and his friends don’t run a registered animal organization. They volunteer at local animal shelters and use their own salaries to rescue and protect dogs from euthanasia.

Leaving Vucko behind was not an option for these animal lovers, instead they want to find him a loving owner who will love him unconditional and never abandon him again, but before they can do this, they need to nurse the emaciated dog back to health.

Vucko is believed to be two- to three-years old and is extremely under weight. He needs emergency medical care to treat parasites. He will need vaccinations and to her neutered, but at this moment, Zselyko and his friends can’t afford to cover all of the dog’s medical costs. They are asking the community to help them save Vucko.
