So when animal rescue group Hope for Paws received a call about a dog wandering the streets of Los Angeles, they turned to the mapping app to find her… and things only got more unbelievable from there!

One mile away, however, he sought refuge, lying down at the door of an as-yet-unopened business: Pet Pros, in the city of Monroe. Zaley was met at 5:30 am by Breanna Findley, who was headed to work at another business in the shopping center.

“From 522 a mile away, from all of the stores, to come to a pet store,” Findley told Washington NBC affiliate KING5. “I was amazed and shocked. He was a smart boy. He came to a smart place.”

Not long after, Findley’s coworker Amber McGar showed up. McGar, a dog owner, had some treats in her car’s glove compartment.

“He started warming up after we brought the cookies,” McGar told the reporter. “I couldn’t imagine how scared he was. That had to be traumatizing.”

Through the Lost Dogs of Snohomish County Facebook group and Zaley’s tag, Findley and McGar were able to find his owner.

“She told me she honestly thought she was never going to see him again,” Findley said.

Zaley got a police-car escort and was reunited with his family. On Monday, she told KING 5 she was having him checked out to make sure he’s okay.

“There’s nothing better than to have your dog back after it was missing,” said Findley.

True, indeed.

Last week, completely out of the blue, Dove got a phone call from a vet clinic near the town of Brewton, Alabama.  Someone had found Charlie, and when they scanned his chip, Dove’s information came up!  There was no doubt about it, Charlie had been found, and would be coming home.

“I was shocked, overwhelmed. I cried,” Dove said in a news interview Thursday.  “It’s amazing.”

No one is sure just where Charlie has been all this time.  Ten years is a very long time for a dog to be on their own, but Charlie seems no worse for the wear.  He’s a bit gray in the fur here and there and is in need of medical treatment for a minor issue, but he’ll be on his way home soon.

“It will be a lengthy road for him, but he’ll be home,” said Dove.

Dove was living in a different place back when Charlie first went missing.  Charlie is of a breed that is commonly used as a hunting dog, and can be very expensive to adopt and train.  Dove believes that someone took Charlie off of their property because of this.

“He’s an expensive hunting dog.  We just kept him as a pet,” said Dove.  “He was a spoiled rotten pet.  I was shocked and at first I thought ‘This has got to be a scam’ because it’s been 10 years.  They sent me a picture and I talked with them, and it’s my Charlie.”

Last year we shared with you the story of Karina and her dog Naida, who dutifully protected her when she spent nearly two weeks lost in the vast wilderness of Siberia.  Naida only left the girl’s side to find people to come rescue them, and recently a statue was unveiled at the Yakutsk Airport dedicated to their perseverance.

On July 29^th, 2014, Rodion Chikitova embarked on a trip to his native village.  Unbeknownst to him, his four-year-old daughter, Karina, followed him into the woods.  Their puppy, Naida, accompanied her.  Karina’s mother thought Rodion had brought her along, and it wasn’t until they spoke on the phone a few days later that their worst fears were realized.

Crews searched by air and land for five days with no trace of her.  Some of the men on the ground were even forced to fend off a bear.  Chances of finding the girl and pup alive in these conditions and 40-degree weather were becoming increasingly slim.  But after nine days, the dog returned to the girl’s village of Olom.

“Two days before we found Karina her puppy came back home.  That was the moment when our hearts sank, because we thought at least with her dog Karina had chances to survive –  night in Yakutia are cold and some areas have already gone into minus temperatures,” explained Afanasiy Nikolayev, spokesman for the Sakha Republic Rescue Service.

“If she was to hug her puppy, we thought, this would have given her a chance to stay warm during nights and survive.  So when her dog came back we thought ‘that’s it’ – even if she was alive – and chances were slim – now she would have definitely have lost all hopes.  Our hearts truly and deeply sank.”

But the dog didn’t just return – he came to get people to find her.  He led rescuers exactly to her.  Karina had been hiding out in some tall grass, which is why she couldn’t be spotted from above.

“Suddenly with the dog’s help we saw Karina siting in the grass. We rushed to her, got her a little tea and grabbed her to run back to the car and doctors,” Nikolayev said.  “I carried Karina myself to the car, and she was light as a bird. She weighed hardly 10 kilograms (22 pounds) – but amazingly she was fully conscious.”

Miraculously, the scantily-clad girl only suffered from mosquito bites and a few scratches to her feet.  She told rescuers how she survived by eating berries and drinking water from streams.

“Certainly she went with grandmother and parents to the forest, to gather berries. Perhaps this is why she was not afraid of the forest,” said rescuer Albert Semyonov.  “Karina herself is a very strong girl, has a strong-willed character. This probably helped her to survive.”

Karina’s grandmother, Emma, said that Karina’s first words to Naida when she returned were “Why did you leave me?”  But because of this wonderful dog, she survived and was found before anything bad could happen.  She made a complete recovery, and was for the most part unfazed by their sojourn.

Nikolay Chochchasov was inspired by the pair’s stoutheartedness, and created a bronze sculpture in their likenesses.  Karina recently celebrated her sixth birthday, around the same time the effigy was revealed by Yakutsk Airport’s general director, Nikolay Mestnikov.

Petey and K2 are best buddies. They grew up together and they do everything together; they eat together, they sleep together, and they even got lost together. And now they have been found–still together! When they were found, it was the dog who first got spotted. When the people who found K2 led him to their backyard, they were surprised to see the pig follow the dog. They then called animal control services. But when the animal control officer tried to take the dog, the pig started squealing! They then realized that the two are budddies!

This unlikely pair sure caught the attention of many! It’s just so cute watching a dog and a pig who have an inseparable bond and such a beautiful friendship!

Thankfully, Petey and K2 are now back safe at home.

Clyde the cat was missing for 12 days. And during the time he was missing, Clyde’s family was so worried about him. But it’s not just the family who misses him. Triton, the family’s German Shepherd misses Clyde too! Luckily, a neighbor returned Clyde to the family after he recognized him from a ‘Lost and Found’ ad. On February 19, 2015, Karen Ziegler from Mesa, Ariz., returned home to find her husband desperately looking for their 12-year-old black Labrador pet named BB. Ziegler’s husband said he knew the dog was on the property and had been searching for her for hours to no avail. When the couple checked their backyard, they could hear BB crying and as they followed the sound, they discovered the dog had entered a tortoise den and was stuck.

The Zieglers own a pet turtle and she had dug a den leading to underneath the homeowner’s driveway, where the turtle usually keeps cool. However on that day, the turtle was out in the yard while BB was stuck in the den.

Ziegler called 911 and the operator told her a rescue unit wouldn’t usually be dispatched for this type of rescue, but because the pet owner was in a panic, the operator said she would call firefighters and see if they would be able to help.

Within minutes , three firefighters from Station 211 arrived at the home and assessed the situation. They realized they were not equipped for this rescue and called Station 204 for help. Four more firefighters arrived with heavy equipment ready to rescue BB.

When Dale “Bucko” Franck’s dog Sissy went missing last week in Iowa, he was devastated at the thought of not being able to find her.  But thankfully she was only 20 blocks away – at a hospital she had never been – to be with her human mom, who is battling cancer.

Bucko took his Schnauzers, Sissy and Barney, out for a walk last week.  But moments after returning home, he noticed that Sissy had gotten out.

“I was scared to death and I was crying,” he told Iowa Public Radio.  “I’m sorry, but that’s my baby.”

Hours later, Sissy still hadn’t returned home or been found.  But she was microchipped and tagged, so Bucko was hopeful that someone would find her and bring her somewhere to be scanned.

At 5 am the next day, the man was delighted to receive news about Sissy.  Calling was a staff member at Mercy Hospital, where his wife Nancy was being treated for a cancer-related surgery.

“Lady from security… called and said she had a dog,” Bucko said.

Though Sissy had never been to the hospital before, she managed to track down her ailing human mom.  Schnauzers are known for their sniffers, and many dogs are able to detect illness, so it is possible that Sissy was concerned about Nancy and wanted to make sure she was ok.

Bucko was “surprised,” and said he was “glad they found her.”

Bucko called Sara Wood, Nancy’s daughter, who went to the hospital to pick Sissy up.

“I didn’t believe him at first, but it’s not something you can make up,” she said. “That’s where she was.”

Before taking her back home, Sara was allowed to bring Sissy upstairs to see Nancy for a few minutes.

“We could only stay a few minutes but I’m sure she enjoyed every second of that few minutes,” Sara said. “I’m sure that Sissy went home and told Barney, ‘Guess who I got to see and what I got to do and where I went?’”

Houston, Texas is not exactly a hop, skip and a jump from the Netherlands.  In fact they’re about 5,000 miles away each other.  So, how exactly did Amy, a dog that went missing in the Netherlands find herself in the United States of America?

Amy is a two-year-old Shepherd mix. Back in October, she was found wandering alongside Interstate 10 by a college student from Katy, Texas. Amy was taken to a vet where it was discovered that she had a micro-chip containing her identity. The information on the chip revealed that Amy was a very long way from home.

Amy was from the Netherlands. She was missing from Linda Pool who had been her human mom since she was adopted as a pup back in 2011. Unfortunately, Linda’s family situation had been changed and she could no longer keep Amy. With a heavy heart, Linda brought Amy back to the person she got her from, in the hopes for finding Amy a new home.

For whatever reason, the person who was supposed to be helping re-home Amy, actually sold her off to another family. This was done behind Linda’s back, and Amy was never to be seen again. Or so Linda thought.

“I was very worried, I didn’t know how she was or where she was,” said Linda. “I can’t wait to pick her up.”

Amy is now hanging out in Moody, Texas. She’s staying with a foster mom, Miriam Brueggeman. Miriam said she was contacted by a friend that lives in the Netherlands out of nowhere and asked to assist with the situation.

“I am very thankful just to be able to help reunite a woman with her dog,” Miriam said. “I’ve had dogs for a long time; if it were me I can’t imagine finding my dog in another country. It’s just so crazy.”

Amy and her human have been keeping in contact over the internet via video chat. Amy still recognizes Dutch when she hears it, and is excited every time she gets a chance to connect with Linda.

It’s still very unclear on exactly how Amy got to the United States. Linda had raised enough money to come to Texas to get Amy back, and the pair are to be united December 17th.
