In fact, when one Massachusetts family spotted a tiny coyote pup all alone on a roadside, they thought it was a German Shepherd puppy. So, being dog lovers, the family rescued what they thought could be their new furry family member. But looking at the puppy they found a little closer, they realized something was different about this little guy.

A Pup Yes, But Certainly Not Domestic

After finding the coyote pup “wandering and distressed” and mistaking him for a lost puppy, the New England Wildlife Center reported the family contacted them for help. It was then the puppy was identified as an Eastern Coyote.

“With the help of the Mass Department of Public Health we were able to determine there was no potential exposure risk to rabies,” said the New England Wildlife Center via Facebook. “He is now recovering comfortably in one of our isolation wards, but will not be on his own for long! A foster sibling has just arrived from @riwildliferehab and they will soon be introduced.”

The center also explained the pair of pups would be raised in the most natural upbringing possible, promising experts “will work to replicate the essential behaviors and skills they learn from mom and dad.”

All Grown Up

Now, the young coyote pup is grown and ready to take on the world!

“After 6 long months of rehab this pup has made incredible strides. He is wild by all accounts and is exhibiting all of the correct behaviors and skills.”

“Weighing in at just over 40 pounds he has a healthy appetite and has been increasingly active in the large outdoor enclosure.”

Both the male and his foster sister have been returned to the wild as an “inseparable” pair, the center sharing, “Because they had each other as companions they have remained wild and weary of humans.”

“Releasing them as a unit will hopefully increase their survival rate in the wild. While some coyotes may choose to part ways after release something tells us these two may be bonded for life.”

What To Do If You Find a Coyote Pup

Regarding the tale of this young male, the New England Wildlife Center said, “This case had a happy ending, but it could have easily gone differently.”

“Coyotes are considered a Rabies vector species in MA and are susceptible to contracting the virus that is deadly to all mammals including people.”

If you happen upon a coyote pup, the center offers this advice, “It can be hard to tell sometimes, which is why consulting a professional is always a good idea. But in general, the ears, coat, and the snout can help identify them.”

The ears and muzzle on a coyote pup typically have a more pointed look, while the coat and tail are thicker and bushier than a domestic puppy. And when studying a young coyote, you might be put in mind of wolves or foxes. And though you want to help what might seem to be an abandoned pup, the mom could be nearby hunting, ready to return at any moment. When it comes to wild animals, always let professionals do the job.

Webb quickly fell in love with the tiny pup, who also took a liking to her. Webb was the only soldier there who was able to hold her without her crying or freaking out.

Webb spent weeks feeding her and gaining her trust, showing her that the soldiers would only help her, not hurt her.

But unfortunately, there were people out there who were willing to hurt her. Webb often had to hide the dog, who she named Pup Pup, from dog catchers, who are quick to kill off all the strays.

During her time in Europe, Webb and Pup Pup developed an extremely strong bond, one that Webb knew she couldn’t leave behind. But when it was time for her deployment to come to an end, Webb feared that Pup Pup would end up getting killed without her.

That’s when she heard about the non-profit Paws of War, which reunites soldiers with the animals they cared for overseas once they’re back in the United States.

Since the organization runs solely on donations, they had to wait until they had enough money to bring the dog to the U.S., which costs on average $7,000. Thanks to an article from the NY Post, not only did Paws of War raise enough money to bring Pup Pup to the U.S., but they also raised enough to rescue a second dog too!

After several months apart, Webb and Pup Pup were finally reunited in a touching moment.

Pup Pup rolled on her back and wagged her tail as soon as she got out of the van and spotted her new forever mom.

A group of friends happened to be walking through the city of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco, Mexico, when there was a rainstorm.

They happened upon the stranded possum who was in the middle of the road, drowning in the flooding. One of the friends immediately sprang into action when he saw the helpless creature in need.

One of the members of the group shared to ViralHog, “After watching a poor possum being swept away by a surging rainstorm, my best friend Abraham, took his shirt off to save the possum and deliver it to safety.”

The man, Abraham, took his shirt off as he approached the possum. The entire time, his friend was recording his actions while he attempted to rescue the little animal before the waters carried him away.

Thankfully, he managed in time, as he was able to scoop the possum up in his shirt and carry him over to safety. He was then able to release the possum back to freedom.

Mana was off duty one weekend when he happened to be at the right place at the right time in order to help the little elephant.

The poor animal had been badly injured when a motorcycle collided with him as he crossed the road with his herd in the eastern province of Chanthaburi.

Footage of the rescue was caught as Mana worked hard to save the little pachyderm’s life. The video went viral pretty quickly and people were quite impressed by Mana’s efforts to save his life.

The rescue worker was seen giving the animal two-handed compressions as it lay on one side. While Mana worked on the elephant, the man’s fellow colleagues were busy treating the injured motorcycle rider just a few feet away.

It took long enough, but after 10 minutes the little elephant was able to stand. It was then transported for proper medical attention.

Needless to say, people were quite impressed by Mana’s actions. After the video went viral, there were tons of comments from people who saw Mana as a true hero.

After treatment, the elephant was returned to the accident site in order to reunite it with its mom. Mana shared that the elephant’s mother eventually showed up and was able to take the little elephant back to its herd.

The man, Robert Rojas, had spotted the poor dog on the street carrying a very heavy padlock and chain around her neck. He immediately knew he had to help and cautiously approached the dog. Luckily, the dog was quite a friendly pooch, despite the horrific situation. The poor girl was carrying a very heavy burden – 30 pounds of it!

Because of this situation, change is starting to come about. In Oklahoma, there aren’t any current laws regarding how dogs are chained up. Inspired by this poor pooch’s experience, Democratic state representative Mickey Dollens decided to draft a bill that would make this sort of cruelty a criminal offense. Dollens told KFOR that he was approached by Rojas about the incident. He then began to look into the laws and was extremely shocked and horrified by how few laws there are in Oklahoma regarding animal cruelty.

Dollens stated, “Never chain your dog, especially to a tree fence or pickup truck. The likelihood that they die from suffocation is increased and it’s just no way to treat a pet.”

Dollens added that he was imploring the people of Oklahoma to treat their animals with love and respect – the way that all animals deserve to be treated. It’s good to see lawmakers wanting to make a change for the better so that animals can have the same love and respect they deserve.

He’s recovering great and now his wound is healed and closed for good! He is a very happy dog with a lot of energy and loves to play with his new doggy friends. He is definitely making up for lost time!
