A baby with the chubbiest cheeks was sitting beside his brown canine pal. They were propped up in front of a basket of toys and everything was serene for a moment. Soon, the real performance would begin.

After hearing his dog bark, the adorable baby let out some noise of his own. He made a high-pitched squeal as his smile grew from ear to ear. That must have been his own individual style of singing.

Next to him sat his small dog, observing the baby’s actions. His owner was bobbing around “singing” those high notes like the Andrea Bocelli baby he strived to be.

The dog wanted to turn the baby’s solo performance into a duet.

He began to raise his own voice and howl along with the baby’s high notes. Playing off of each other’s voices, the dog-baby duo continued, almost as if they were trying to harmonize at certain points within their song.

Toward the middle, the bouncing baby boy let his singing partner steal the spotlight. It was the dog’s time to shine, and oh, did he howl like never before!

Their song was a display of pure friendship between (little) man and dog.

When Addie was born three months early, she had to spend the next several months in the hospital.  Jpeg, the family’s rescue dog, couldn’t meet her until she came home, so he slept with her swaddling blankets until then.  And now the two can’t be separated.  Just a puppy himself, he is very protective of his fragile little sister, and she is the only one he’ll even give kisses to.

“When she gets sick, he runs over to her.  When she cries, he kisses her.”

Jpeg was adopted from Pregnant Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania by the Durfee family when he was just under three months old.  Not long after, his parents added another baby to the mix – a little girl named Adeline.  But she was 14 weeks premature, and weighing less than two pounds, she had to be kept in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).  She spent the first eight months of her life in the hospital.

So Jpeg was nearly a year old by the time he was finally able to meet his sister.  However, their bonding started as soon as she was born.

“His love for her started even before she came home,” mom Stephanie told The Dodo.  “When she was in the NICU, I would bring home her blanket that she was swaddled in that day, and he would get excited, smell it and sleep on it.”

The tiny baby is still facing some possible undiagnosed medical complications and requires a feeding tube, but Jpeg is never anything but tender with his beloved sister.

“Jpeg was only one when we brought her home, and he was still very much a puppy,” Stephanie said. “The second we came home, he calmed down so much. He is beyond gentle.”

And even more than gentle, Jpeg is very watchful over his charge.  He guards the doorway of any room she is in, and makes sure to put himself between her and any stranger that comes near.  And it’s clear that the love is mutual.

“He is the only one she reaches for.  When he comes near her, she smiles. She may have cerebral palsy, and one of the ways we do physical therapy is I have Jpeg lay a few feet from her, and we work on crawling toward him. When she reaches him, he covers her in kisses and she laughs. Jpeg is not a licker or kisser, except when it comes to Adeline.”

Though one would think a puppy his age would be a bit rambunctious, caring for such a delicate sibling is serious business.

“At doggy day care, he runs with his friends every time they throw the ball, but never goes after it,” Stephanie said.  “He’s not very competitive.”

He’s just got more important things on his mind.  Dogs are incredibly perceptive creatures, and he understands that wee Addie needs his nurturing and protection.  He is her first friend, and hopefully they will share that bond for many years to come.

This is Greg’s story:

My wife and I owned two dogs that we had owned before we met and brought into the marriage. Her dog was a pit bull/Labrador cross named Zack, and he hated me. When our daughter was born, I said to the wife, ‘If he so much as nips at the baby, he’s gone.’

We brought our daughter home in a car seat, and both dogs sniffed and licked her, tails wagging. I had to pull Zack away from her because he wouldn’t stop licking her. Zack immediately became my daughter’s protector, and when she was lying on a blanket on the floor, he always had to have one foot on the blanket.

Zack loved my daughter immensely, and when she became a little older always walked her to bed, and then slept on the bed with her. He somehow knew whenever it was time to go upstairs, and he would wait at the foot of the stairs for her, and then follow her up to bed.

Zack was poisoned by some dirtbag neighbor kids, and we had one of the worst days of our lives. Watching my daughter say goodbye to him as he laid still on the kitchen floor, my wife and I were both sobbing.

At 8:00 that night, my daughter walked to the stairs to go to bed. At that moment, all three of us realized what was about to happen. After five years, she didn’t have Zack to accompany her upstairs. She looked at her mother and me with a look of horror and panic.

It was at that moment that my dog, who loved my daughter dearly, but was not in Zack’s league, stood up, walked over to her, and nudged her with his head. He put his foot on the stairs, and looked up at her. They walked up to bed, with my daughter holding tightly to his neck.

For the next six years, until he died, Sam waited for her by the stairs each night.

This dog was heartlessly discarded by a breeder, and when he was found was emaciated and being eaten by mites.  But he was taken in by a family who treated him like a prince, and he recovered.

Because of his traumatic past, some might think he’d have had a hard time adjusting to an attention-hogging baby, but Daizu was like another parent to the boy – his first friend, really.

Even though the baby didn’t always understand what Daizu was doing, he never stopped trying to engage him in play.  As he got older, the boy would play tug-of-war with him, and Daizu was as gentle as ever.

Sadly, Daizu succumbed to a severe respiratory infection in October.  He was eight years old.  Because of the wonderful experiences Daizu had with this boy, it is likely that he will always love and be kind to animals.

Louie and Lady are a pair of dalmatians that are just madly in love with each other. Over the years, they’ve built quite the following and their exploits are seen by people all over the world.

Louie is well-known for his compassion; he actually adopted a litter of tiny baby kittens that weren’t his own, simply because he loved them so much.

But sometimes, it’s healthy for a couple to leave their kids in the hands of a responsible babysitter or grandparent so they can relax and go out to paint the town red!

The video below shows Louie and Lady’s beautiful little puppies happily enjoying the backyard. As their parents get ready to play with each other, the puppies can’t help but follow them wherever they go! These busy parents get the chance to spread their legs a bit and sprint around wherever they please.

It should be noted that these puppies are being kept in this playpen just to ensure their safety. Their human stays close by and loves them all very much, but to keep track of 12 rambunctious puppies, all running around on their own adventures, could very easily lead to a lost puppy!

Dinozzo, the three-week-old fox, was found after his mother got hit and killed by a car. While most baby animals can’t survive the harsh world all alone, this little guy was lucky enough to be rescued and taken to a vet.

Werner and Angelika Schmaing, a couple in Oberscheld, heard about little Dinozzo and decided to adopt him. Their family includes a Bengal cat named Leopold, a sweet Collie named Ziva, and two piglets. The animals have a huge yard to roam, which Dinozzo can easily access through the cat door!

It wasn’t long before Dinozzo formed an especially close bond with new Mama Ziva, and kitty Leopold has also welcomed him into his new home. He has since gained strength and is a happy, healthy young fox!

“I was 20 weeks pregnant and had been so unwell for weeks, I couldn’t walk… and I hadn’t kept anything down for weeks,” Alhanna said in a post on Facebook (which is no longer available).

“Doctors put it down to me being so small and my spine not being able to manage with the extra weight well and just normal pregnancy symptoms but Keola wouldn’t leave my side.”

When Alhanna got ready for work, Keola insistently nudged her, and would not stop barking and whining.

Upon her return home, “Keola looked so sad and I knew something was bothering her. She just sat there staring at me and wouldn’t let me go anywhere alone.”

Unable to ignore Keola’s desperate signals, Alhanna went to the hospital, and fainted as soon as she began walking down the corridor.  She was rushed to the ICU, where she faded in and out of consciousness while on morphine.

“Turns out my backache was due to a double kidney infection and because it was untreated for so long it was one of the worst cases they had ever seen.”

“On top of that I had an antibiotic resistant bug that had only ever affected one other person in the UK. It was killing me and the doctors told me if I had left it any longer I would have died and more than likely my son also.”

Alhanna and her son, who was named Lincoln, are alive and well, thanks to Keola.  She absolutely adores her new little brother, and has happily taken on the role of his nanny.

“She is our hero, his guardian angel and we will forever be in her debt.”

The dog starts of whispering something, and the more the woman tries to teach her baby MAMA the more the dog tries to say it. He barks once as if he wants to say: “OMG I wanna say it, but it is a little bit difficult for me, but I will keep on trying.” And he really does tries.  Even though the video is short, it is enough time for the dog to learn a new word. As seconds pass by, he starts making sense on what he i saying, until in the end he finally says it: MAMA.

But then the baby starts getting jealous, and he wants to make the dog go away. The show was supposed to be for the baby, and the dog swooped in, and stole it from him. Well what is a dog to do. They want to be always active in every single situation. And that is one of them. SO sorry little baby, but this time the “learning a new word” award goes to the amazingly talented dog. Thank you both for the funny moments, and for the effort you put into learning this new word. You truly made our day a little brighter, and our smile a little louder. You may not have known it, but mutts, dogs with many different breed’s genes, are among some of the healthiest pups around.

These pups? I’ve never heard of this mix before. They’re so fluffy and petite, yet they have some of the features of a bigger dog. Can you guess what these little babies are?
