He found it at Tin Can Town, an animal rescue that helps local dogs and cats. “She was very thin and the boy told us he didn’t have enough money for food for her,” Stöckigt who works at a rescue organization told The Dodo. “We told him we would do our best to save her life, and find her a new loving home that can take care of her. We thanked him for bringing her to us for help.”

They named the doggie Nanuk and put her on a drip. It turned out that the pooch had parvo virus, which can be lethal if untreated. If she wasn’t going to eat, there would be no hope for her.

The rescuers would cheer her up with the visits from foster kitties and, on the sixth day, Nanuk got better.

“I think it is a combination of the kittens, having one of us by her side the whole time giving her love and encouragement…” Stöckigt said. The rescuers are on the look for a loving forever home for Nanuk.

I’m a recovering addict and have always had dogs growing up. I got sober and was trying to cope with the extreme feelings of loneliness. I decided to rescue a dog while living in a sober living house.

I got Cudi from Palm Beach Animal Care and Control. They told me he was a stray, they weren’t sure how old he was and he didn’t take well to people. Shibas are very independent. I immediately fell in love with him.

I was able to rescue him and things have been going great. On Monday, I went down to my car to go to work, and my car had been broken into. My wallet was stolen which had every dollar I had to my name in it because I do not have a bank account.

I went to work, came home, my power was off, and Cudi was stumbling around, walking into walls – falling all over.  I couldn’t figure out if I should call FPL or a vet first.

We thought he might have had a seizure or stroke by his symptoms. I was able to bring him to a vet today and they said it was kidney failure. He won’t eat or drink. I have to bring him back to the vet every day for the next few days for IV fluids. Then he needs to be on meds as well, and special food. It’s a lot for someone who just had had their money stolen from them. Cudi means the world to me. I would go without food and everything else to make sure he is ok and has what he needs.

I don’t have the money to get him all the treatment he needs and it can’t wait. He needs it now. Especially now he won’t eat or drink. He’s so weak and can barely stand. I tried to make him his favorite, scrambled eggs, and he just takes his nose and pushes it away.

All he wants to do is sleep. He has no energy and I know he’s extremely dehydrated. It’s causing me physical pain knowing, at the moment, I can’t provide for him the way I should be able to because of the circumstances that someone felt the need to break into my car and take everything I had!

Anyone who knows me knows that Cudi is my whole world, my child, the love of my life, my everything. Anything helps. I’m so grateful for everyone who’s even taking the time to read this. Thank you so much.   – Samantha De New

On January 16th I saw a post going around on Facebook about a US Veteran in Surprise, Arizona that was losing his home and being evicted in a few days. He has 4 beautiful Malinois dogs and options were limited because he wants to keep them. I’m active in the dog rescue/homeless advocacy community and I wanted to do something, but it seemed there were a few options and that he had some help.

Several days went by and I decided to reach out to Jeremy directly and ask if he needed food for his dogs. He responded and said yes. I met him and the dogs in a parking lot on January 27th. Someone donated a van to him and he is a living in it with the dogs. He is humble about getting help, but he still needs it.

A nice woman is allowing him to park at her house at night but it is not feasible for him to have a room in the house as initially offered, as she has many dogs, as well. This is not an easy way to live on an ongoing basis, especially for the dogs. I gave him two large bags of dog food for Junior, Buddy, Olive & Dale. It would be nice to get him a motel room now and again so they can all stretch out and wash up and get them out of these tight quarters. 

On January 28th I assisted him in taking the dogs to the Stand Down event and the dogs got shots and a check-up. One of the dogs had some dental issues and another a possible ACL condition. It would be nice to get them ongoing care and follow up, as they are ages five through nine. He is returning to the Stand Down event today, to see what help is available for him, since we got the dogs taken care of yesterday. It can take several days or weeks to receive any help, if anything is even available for him.

Much of the assistance out there for vets is for the humans only. If someone is unwilling to give up their pets, assistance is greatly limited. He does not want to give up his pets, as they are the source of some happiness and purpose to him. I totally get that. Someone who bravely served our country should not be living like this. It is not known yet if there is any housing assistance available. It would be nice if someone knew of a rental home or townhouse with a yard or fenced patio that allowed a veteran with 4 dogs. They are well behaved and of course potty trained. Goal amount may later be changed depending on what he finds out about housing. 

Many people have asked about helping and asked if I would set up a GoFundMe for him and the dogs. Please know Jeremy did not ask me to do this. Will you help me help Jeremy, Dale, Junior, Buddy and Olive? What the funds can be used for:

*Further care, treatment, food and supplies for the 4 dogs (Including current ID tags, harnesses, microchipping, joint supplement for Dale)
*Bottled water for all of them
*Use of laundry mat to clean bedding and clothing
*Gas, insurance, update tags, maintenance for the van
*Storage unit so that the van isn’t so cramped with clothing, belongings and dog supplies. He lost/left many things at the house, but still has some personal items.
*Cell phone upkeep so he has a way to receive calls about possible assistance.
*PO Box, so he has an address to receive mail about assistance.
*Food, vitamins, toiletries, wipes, hand sanitizer, clothing, etc. for Jeremy
*A removable rug for the van that can be taken out and vacuumed at a car wash (living with the hair of 4 dogs!)
*Possible play time at indoor dog park for the dogs (outdoor dog parks have not worked well)
*Whatever other needs arise!

Thank you for your continued support and donations, everyone! I have been out of town for a few days for work and just got back last night at midnight. This morning was the first time funds were available to use from GFM. I will be meeting Jeremy today to switch the dog food to Earthborn. Poor Olive has not been feeling well a couple days, going to see if this will make a difference. I will also get another gas card. Jeremy has an appointment this afternoon to check into housing. Not sure how that will go with the 4 dogs. Hoping for the best, I will let you know! Some of you have asked what kind of work he will be looking for. Yes, he wants to work, but he will need a place to live before he can get a job. He ideally would like office work, and yes he does WANT to work. He is uplifted by our support and that we care. 

When I saw them today, Olive looked so much better that Jeremy had reported she was feeling yesterday. Today he said she is doing so much better. That is so great! He thinks she was having tummy trouble. Part of the problem is that that are mostly in the van and get out for potty breaks several times a day. We need a safe yard they can stretch out in and walk around a bit at least a few times a week. There have been a couple offers, but we want everyone’s dogs safe without getting hurt. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Does anyone have a yard, side yard, lot, etc… where a temporary chain link fence dog run could be put for Jeremy’s dogs? A nice lady is offering to buy a structure if a place can be found for it. Ideally this would be somewhere in NW valley.

Here is the pack this morning! They now have sturdy harnesses, name tags and are microchipped! Jeremy was given funds for gas and to get a PO box. 

It takes several days before funds are available, but we are hoping to be looking for a place very, very soon and pay several months upfront as well as utility deposits. Insurance for the van will also be paid this week.

Met up with Jeremy and the pack today! The dogs got new Kong leashes with the easy control loop, some Honest Kitchen fish skin treats , a grain free dental bone each and a cooling mat. Jeremy was given a gas card for Kwik Trip and a laptop. The laptop will help him dust off his resume, help me find them a place to live, research jobs or any other assistance opportunities, as well as just help with life in general. I reached out to 9 rental listings in Surprise yesterday and have not heard back from a single one. Please let me know if anyone is aware of a possible rental opportunity in Surprise or Peoria that would allow four very trained and behaved dogs.

“In the beginning, I was a little afraid of dogs.  But then when I began working with them, I got to understand,” Balu explained (translated into English).  “I decided that I’m not going to do anything else – whatever I do has to be with animals.  Now I am married, and my wife is an animal lover, as well.”

He earns a living by charging a minimal amount to pet owners and the NGO (Non Governmental Organization) for transport and boarding.

“I keep five to six dogs at home, some with broken legs and paws,” Balu said.

Dogs that don’t stay with him are often entrusted to Vinod Salvi, who runs Pets Force.

“I don’t like the name, ‘shelter,’ Vinod explained. “It means keeping dogs inside small rooms. So I like the name ‘farm,’ not ‘shelter.’ Balu drops them off here; after that I manage their day care.”

Though most people are supportive, Balu often faces castigation and bullying from others who think these animals should just be killed. But he doesn’t care what they think – he knows the work he does is invaluable, and will continue to do so for as long as he can.

Honey is an adorable pit bull in the process of being certified as an emotional support dog for a four-year-old boy with a sensory processing disorder.  She’s always been a very good girl, never needing a leash to run to the car for a ride, but one day someone was riding a bike past her, and the part of her dog brain that commands her to attack bike and car wheels got the better of her.  She nipped the ankle of the rider, who is fighting to have her put to sleep.  But Honey’s family is fighting tooth and nail to keep her alive, and need your help.

For those who are wondering what is going on, here’s the story. I have hesitated to post this, obviously because I own two pit bulls and the last thing I wanted was for someone to have a hay day with my dog’s misfortune. On July 25th, Katy was going to grab some breakfast and decided to take Honey with her. Honey always goes straight to car, excited about going for a ride. Because of this, we have never leashed her when going for a ride in the car. Neither Katy nor I checked the street before opening the gate. When we opened the gate, Honey saw someone riding a bicycle that we did not see.

Yes, like any dog, she ran for the bike. Yes, she did bite the lady riding the bike. She got the lady on her ankle and as soon as I called her back to me, she came back. The bite was not serious and I could’ve done worse scraping up against a nail in the shop. Unfortunately, this lady called her husband to come pick her up and when he discovered Honey was a pit bull, the entire world ended. He did call animal services and Honey had to spend 10 days in quarantine.

Unfortunately, this is not the end. The couple went to the city and filed a dangerous dog affidavit. Our hearing was on September 1^st and despite all the evidence we had proving Honey was not dangerous, she was still deemed dangerous due to the fact that she attacked unprovoked. We are in the process of appealing this decision but this is just the beginning of a very long process.

We ask for all the prayers and support you can give. Thank you to those who have already helped and are continuing to help. Your help has been greatly appreciated and we cannot thank you enough. Those of you who know my dog know that the two years prior to us having her were more than likely filled with abuse. Since she has been with us, she has shown us nothing but love.

Knowing the bad name and discrimination that pit bulls receive, we have always taken great care in socializing our dogs, providing a secure backyard for our dogs, and providing a safe neighborhood for those around us. This truly was an isolated incident for Honey. Honey has passed both beginner and intermediate training, in the presence of other dogs and people.  Continued prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

So when a paralyzed little puppy named Rumple first came to Asheville Humane Society, they did everything they can to help him. Rumple couldn’t use his back legs and he had no control over his bodily functions. But they knew Rumple deserved a chance. X-rays show that Rumple has an injury in his spine. They gave him medications to reduce the inflammation and pain. But what’s amazing is that when they tried acupuncture on him, his tiny toe began to twitch! Watch the video below for the full story!

They received an email about a stray dog that no one could rescue. For three months the dog has survived wandering around the streets. After being hit by a car, shot by a BB gun and a paintball gun, it’s no wonder why this poor thing doesn’t let anyone touch him or go near him. Fortunately, a kindhearted person in the neighborhood fed him every night. When the team arrived in the area, they tried for 6 hours to get a hold of the stray dog. But the dog won’t let anyone get close to him. However, when another dog came, they saw an opportunity! Watch how the another dog helped in saving this poor stray dog!

The parents of a Dachshund named Lola were forced to give her up to a rescue group when they couldn’t afford her surgery. Lola was completely paralyzed; she was dragging her back legs. This was caused by a slipped disc in her spinal cord. Lola’s owners were devastated and so depressed that they had to give up their poor little dog. However, something amazing happened. On March 15, 2015, a group of mountain climbers rescued a dog that had been lost for five days in the Curavacas mountains of Spain.

Tente Lagunilla, and avid climber and mountain rescuer, learned about the lost dog when a friend contacted him to say that on Saturday he had heard a dog barking near the mountain’s summit but was unable to locate the dog. When Lagunilla’s friend descended the mountain he went into town and inquired about the lost a pet. The man found the dog’s owner and learned the dog had been missing since Tuesday, March 10th.

The following day Lagunilla organized a rescue mission, and with a team of seasoned climbers they headed into the mountains. Bad weather made the rescue risky, but after hours hiking through snow and ice, the rescue team came upon the tired, hungry and lost dog.

Lagunilla secured the dog to a leash, fed him and then continued the trek to the summit. It was necessary to go all to the top in order to access a safe road and trek back down to town.

Once rescuer descended, the dog was reunited with his thankful owner. The pet is now comfortably resting at home.

Unfortunately (and fortunately), these bikers witnessed the horrors of man on the side of the road.

When these two bikers from Arkansas rode along the rural countryside, they spotted something unusual off in the distance. When they arrived at the signs, they jumped off their bikes and went to go check it out. Thank goodness they did

The bikers spotted a crate in the distance and moved closer to check it out.

They eventually saw that the crate was chewed up as if something was still inside, trying to escape.

Their hunch was confirmed when they found this poor dog in the crate. It was apparently abandoned and left for dead by her “owners.”

They immediately gave the poor pup some food for nourishment, as it seemed like she hadn’t eaten for days.

They took the emaciated little lady into their car with the hopes of rehabilitating her and getting her back to full health.

She didn’t seem to mind the idea.

The first wanted to give her a bath to make sure she was clean after living in a horrible crate for a long time.

Next up was a trip to the vet to get her in good health. Unfortunately, since she was living in a cramped space for so long, her nails had grown so long that they grew backwards into her paws.

The bikers decided to keep her and pay for her medical needs. Several people donated to the cause once they posted their story on Facebook.

She now lives in a loving home with owners who know exactly how to take care of her.
