In 2009, an animal shelter where I do volunteer work rescued approximately 300 dogs from a puppy mill. Kept on two smallholdings in horrible conditions and left to breed indiscriminately – some for many years.

Our hearts truly go out to senior dogs that find themselves in need of a home. We realize that they are in quite a predicament, and often, they are overlooked for younger dogs at the shelter.

The callousness of some people is just astonishing. Being in the rescue business means having to face some pretty heartbreaking moments. And no matter how many times animal rescues have to deal with sad cases, it doesn’t get any easier knowing that there are some pretty cold-hearted people in this world.
